BSOD 9f randomly happening

Hi there, My apologies for the double posting, I had previously submitted this in the general discussion and realized my mistake so am posting here. This is my first time posting and I could really use some help. I have been getting sporadic BSOD with no real pattern to it, it seems quite random however the details are always the same:

I m not super technical for this type of ting but I do believe I have followed the guidelines and used the tool to attach the pertinent info. Any hep would be appreciated I have already updated the bios and done a fresh windows install at the behest of Acer tech support but would rather not have to send in my machine for repair it is quite new ad should not require this. My thanks in advance.

So, it is caused by Daemon Tools, as it uses that STPD.sys thing.

► First, you uninstall Daemon Tools.
Daemon Tools... wherever it exists, it causes problem, much more than any other program of the same line.

► Next, download STPD Standalone installer, execute it. When the installer window is open, click on this button only.

If it is grayed out like the screenshot, just close the window, assuming that Daemon is uninstalled totally.

► Free up the startup.

Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.

Much Thanks I will try this tonight and get back to you with the results in a few days to see if this does fix the issue, in the meantime however I do have a question. The whole reason I use Daemon is to mount ISO as I use this type of file quite a bit. Can you recomend a free tool of the same nature that is less likely to cause bugs like this?

Hello jsawyer, all the iso mounting tools do have the same problem. They mount the virtual drives even before windows is started, but the full operation cannot be competed before it is fully started.

Think the situation. Hardware environment is first. Then software. But, when software is trying to be loaded, it founds a hardware specified which is not present there. Coz it cannot be present there before the software is loaded.

This cyclical logic makes the system crash.

You may use 7-zip, it extracts any ISO file. so your need to use an ISO will be fulfilled rightly, at a most, you may miss some DVD menus etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. This does make sense, and thanks for the tip about 7-zip. I am just confused because I have used Daemon on other machines one Vista and one Windows 7 for years, granted both 32 bit, and never experienced an issue. Do you suppose that is the issue, a 64bit cannot handle the tool?

About a crash, it is totally unpredictable. It may happen anytime or anywhere, but you cannot predict it earlier. A cheap system may not crash over years, but a high end rig may crash continuously. So, it did not crash on two other computers ... very good for those ones.

Search the internet on " BSOD and Daemon Tools", you will get a sizable data.

It is the most frequent crasher for windows 7.

Once again my thanks, you are correct there are multitudes of posts about Daemon issue. I noticed a few mentioning my preferred AV as well Avast! as a cause of the dreaded BSOD, did you find anything in the dump that would suggest I should remove this as well? If so, what would you suggest that works best and is free?

jsawyer, Avast is a great antivirus, as long as it is the free version, not coming with the personal firewall. Alongwith windows firewall, it is just nice.

All the AV programs do cause some troubles, if you are using some ambitious settings :) Let it run as it is, there is no problem (Not true for McAfee and AVG, they are big time craps). Some AVs like Norton and Kaspersky comes with some bloatware, who malfunctions, and we blame that AV program. But, we cannot segregate them blots.

In your case, as far as I have seen, Avast is not doing any wrong. Otherwise I must have included in my suggestion. You may continue with Avast.

But, if you plan to change, there is one .... Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows. Most light on the system, most problem free, and as good as avast from the perspective of security.

Hello again, had another BSOD might have found the cause and uninstalled the source but please analyze the files and advise me your thoughts. Some other posts had suggesting using virtual drive for ISO use and seeing as I had flushed the system for reinstall of windows preferred using the ISO mounting, it has been uninstalled and all my gear intact so no longer require nor will use such products from here on, but would like to be certain it was not brought about by something else Cheers.
