BSOD while afk for a long time

    Hi

My system is Dell Dell Studio XPS L502 i7, Recently I'm facing a blue screen problem which only happens when I'm not doing anything on pc ... I mean sometimes when I sleep I start downloading large files etc and get to bed ... but it seems the last 2 times I tried this .. every time there was a blue screen error.

I don't know if this will help but I added both errors even log screenshot from my dell support center ...

And also attached the zip with system info etc using the "SF Diagnostic Tool"

PS: if this is of any help ... I had a faulty battery so I changed it recently .. about 20 days or so ago ... and this is the second time it happend ... could it have anything to do with the battery? (faulty battery maybe? as I had to change the last battery because it was faulty and it kept crushing my system ... BSOD error ... so I searched in dell forums & local Dell tech center and they suggested that I change battery and so I did .. now it feels like same issue's coming back again.)

NOTE: I didn't any system info as I assume you'll have all the info necessary in the zip attached.

If anything else or any other info necessary, let me know and I'll add them.

Please provide solution to this, thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Gabe and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not a BSOD expert but until one comes along to review your .dmp files, there are a couple of things you can do.

Remove the battery and run the computer on AC power only. If BSODs still occur it's probably not battery related.

Make sure you don't have any damaged or corrupt system files by running s system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also check for overheating. Laptops by design do not have adequate fans or vents Prolonged use (such as downloading large files, etc) can cause serious temperature spikes. There are several free utilities that can monitor temperatures in real time such as Speccy, SpeedFan, and HWMonitor. It also might help to use a laptop cooling pad to assist with ventilation.

    Hello Gabe,

    From Bangladesh?

Please follow the good advice given by Marsmimar.

Your BSOD was caused by (the Banglalion Connection manager - I guess):
    Product: Beceem Communications Inc. Tarang
    Company: Beceem communications pvt ltd.
Description: Beceem Communications Inc. WiMAX driver

You should completely uninstall and reinstall the software and drivers for it.

Click on the Start ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to Banglalion then delete remnants of its drivers using Driver Sweeper

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *

    Hi koolkat77
Thank you very much for your quick response.

I understand Banglalion seems to be causing the issue but its a software that comes along with my WiFi USB stick.
Before I remove and reinstall it, I have a question, wouldn't it be the same? I mean as far I know this software doesn't have update options .. (I mean if the core files are causing this issue .. then wouldn't it be the same?)
And if I delete the software, there is no way for me to connect to internet and also to test the BSOD, because as I have mentioned before, it only happens when I download files and go afk.

    Please advise how to proceed.

And marsmimar thank you too, about filechecker, I have already done that, seems my system files are fine.

    Thanks!

Don't worry about uninstalling and reinstalling the software and it's drivers. I haven't tried it myself but I'm sure you'll be getting the installation process every time you plug it in the USB port. I'll try it with mine now and confirm you if you want me to.

This tutorial USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off may help you:

    To Disable Selective Suspend:
    • open the control panel
    • go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
    • click change plan settings
    • in the window that opens:
    • click change plan settings
    • click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

Ok I reinstalled it, its about night time here, I'll run a download as test and lets see if the BSOD happens again or not (hopefully not)

    Will update tomorrow again.

    Thanks for your help!

You're welcome. BTW, consider switching antivirus during this process also. The one you're using currently often contributes in BSODs.

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

    Goodmorning!

It seems nothing happens last night, so far so good ....

What you said about anti-virus, I'm using Avast ... I didn't know its bad ... could you provide some references so I can perhaps contact their support directly with this and show them that avast has an issue and ask them to sort it out maybe (I don't really wanna switch avast unless its absolutely necessary, as I have been using it for ... I don't know how long and to be honest it never let me down), and if you can provide assistance with this, that would be great too.

    Let me know.

Btw one more question, now that we're certain that its Banglalion software that's causing the issue, could you advise some precautions so I can avoid such situations (BSOD) in future

    Thanks!

Is it the free version or paid version of Avast! ?

It's the paid one that's a little stubborn with what it does but if you're having the free version you're good. No need for any precaution at the mom. Hopefully the changes we made on your lappy now stops them once and for all, but IF the BSODs reoccur just post the logs here like you did in your first post.

Weird cause I never had a problem with banglalion on my computer. Probably it was not installed correctly on your laptop.

Keep us posted either way, good luck. :)

Its the free version, so I guess that solves the problem.

Thanks a lot for your assistance!
