Computer is crashing all the time

I installed W7 without any problems, and have had it running for a few days with no problems. Then, yesterday, I tried to install MS Office, and halfway done my screen froze. I turned the computer off manually, and restarted, and now, even if I'm not doing anything, it turns itself off just after a little while.

I have run Vista on it before with no problems for over a year, and have done nothing with the hardware.
The computer gets very warm, so I'm thinking it might have to do with overheating, but why??

    OMG that's really serious...

What is your laptop's model? Can you do a BIOS update?

I've seen many cases where a bios update fixes this issue.

Additionally, visit your manufacturer's website and download and install any chipset and graphics related drivers (for VISTA version) for you laptop.

    Ok... now I'm worried.
My laptop is a COMPAL FT00.

I've never done a bios update. How do I do that?

I had an issue with the fan not working in my laptop as well with 7, I had to use a 3rd party program that monitored and controlled my fan speed
