BSOD's at random times on Alienware M17x R3

Hey all, I have been getting a few different BSOD's recently and have not been able to find the reason behind them. They seem to happen at random times. Sometimes just when on facebook.

I wasn't sure if HWInfo could be causing my problems (My computer doesn't control it's fans properly).

    Thanks for any help!

I would suggest you to uninstall Norton and all Symentec products using Norton Removal tool.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Let us know your decision, and the results.

Thanks for the quick reply! My school forced us to install one of their antiviruses... mcaffe. Already having norton installed along with a combination of Mcaffe failing to install properly I believe messed with my computer. I am currently backing up everything and going to wipe it all clean. I will then try those two other programs! Thank you very much for the quick response!

Never, never use two antivirus programs at once. That is more harmful.

Re-installed Windows 7 64 Bit - 2 days later BSOD while on netflix

I just wiped my computer and re installed windows 7 64 bit fresh on my alienware m17x r3. After about 1.5 hours of watching netflix i received a BSOD. Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. If any more information is needed I would be more than happy to provide it. Thank you guys so much!

Edit: After the crash when my computer came back on the graphics were all messed up. The driver re installed my intel internal graphics card drivers and forced me to restart and everything was fixed. (I don't know if this helps diagnose the problem or not)

Ah, I forgot we are supposed to update our already open threads, rather than creating a new one. Sorry for that Arc.

Well, you update Intel Graphics driver from Driver Reference Table - igdkmd64.sys, and nVidia display driver with the latest one from Latest NVIDIA ForceWare Video Drivers Windows 7.

The crash is by nvidia filter driver.

What does that mean? When fresh installed I updated to the current nvidia driver (so I believe).

    I really appreciate your time.

That means, you have switchable graphics. The intel graphics driver is very old. it is of 2011. So definitely it will crash.

The 2nd October version of nvidia driver is not a very stable one. I experienced myself, and seen many a times during debugging. Update it to October 10's version.

    Hopefully all will be OK.
