I am requesting Debbie B to have a look. His inputs will be valuable here, and it will be helpful for you.
On with Dell now and they are going thru the regular paces. installing updated video driver, then will update BIOS (been thru this before)
He asked me how many PCIe slots i have. I have no idea and told him I thought Dell would know in my configuration somehow.
Thank you Arc!
If Dell is remote connecting to your machine, they should be able to determine everythning about your machine. If you are on chat or on the phone give them your serial number usually located on the COA sticker - the SN will let them check your machine configuration as it was when it went out the door. Dell absolutley should know these things if they have the right information (the SN)
A system Information report (msinfo32.exe) can tell you all about your machine if you're curious, but Dell should know.
Continued good luck resolving the issue with Dell. Hopefully Debbie B can add insightful information for you.

While on with Dell after he updated video driver and BIOS, the system trapped (with the traps I got in November, it appears to my uneducated eye). And now it keeps trapping.
He is sending out someone to replace the VIDEO card! And instructions on how to (drum roll) reinstall Windows...
The video card is alos a PCIe one. May be they understood that it is not the network card but the video card. But that is not impossible. Wish you the best of your luck.
Thank you Arc. I have been suspcious of this video card since november of 2011. I was on with Dell about that back then and they insisted all was fine, and to reinstall Windows. I am pretty upset with them that it took me telling them, thanks to the members of this forum, about the PCIe problem and then they put it together. He never looked at any of the dumps.
After a few struggles in rebooting the system came up with a new problem, re: USB device. Of course i was told a clean reinstall will fix that.
I had to let the System Repair do a System restore. I don't know where it went back to (the program choses it, I dont know what criteria it uses to make the choice). I may no longer have MSE in the registery and possibly have the remains of the dreaded McAfee. I know that that latest video driver has caused me problems in the past so I wanted the system to go back to before that driver was installed by Dell this morning.
And now, after the restore I am told that the unknown device (which before was a USB port) failed in installing. I did not try to install anything so, this is just another mystery.
Anyway, the video card will be reinstalled next week. I have to wait for a call for an appointment. I am NOT happy that i have a Dell machine. Not at all.
Did they say what was wrong with the video card in your machine?
If the video card is the problem, you shouldn't need to reinstall windows. Did they say what video card you would end up with? your current card is a Radeon 5800 series. And when will the tech be there to swap the card?
Please keep us posted.
Firstly, hi guys, this is my first post.
I have the exact same model as sabbyblue, and for almost 2 years, it performed very well. However, until 2 months ago, it starts acting up. And yea, i came across this forum cause i have the same problem as sabbyblue as well. However, i am not sure if my problem is exactly the same as sabbyblue's. I, too get random blue screens. with BlueScreenView, it shows that it is hal.dll+12a3b, ntoskrnl.exe+18cb13 and pcy.sys+9bcf, which is the same as sabbyblue.
Reading through the post, i dont remember seeing another "symptom" i have. or maybe i just missed it. Sometimes right after the BSOD during startup at the windows logo screen, the screen goes black and the cpu starts beeping with the power button blinking along in orange. It is 6 short beeps to be exact. Have tried countless scans and troubleshoots but nothing seems to show what the problem is.
I can give more information if u guys think this is relevant and wants more info. If this is totally irrelevant to this thread, just delete this post or something. Just trying to helpful and hopefully could fix my CPU as well.
Dell told me tech will be here either by the 24th or if not then the 26-28th. I will get a call from tech to make appt. There was no mention of what card. I believe he said replace, which would imply the same card, i think.
in the meantime, i can't start the thing. which is not good, at all. i need it up every day.
