Will this damage my computer?

I am using a piece of audio hardware on my win 7 laptop, which every few days or so triggers a USB Bug Code BSOD. The hardware is fully functional until it randomly cuts out and triggers an automatic shutdown. This is due to the manufacturer having not yet released a suitable driver for the win 7 OS.

This isn't really a problem as the interface still works fine, and even when it cuts off, it takes less than a minute for my computer to restart itself before I can continue using it.

My question is, if I repeatedly allow this BSOD error to occur, will it damage my laptop? I ask this because I can't really afford to buy a new audio interface, or upgrade to win 8.

I've included a screen dump which may or may not help in diagnosing the severity of the issue, as well as any other causes which I may have overlooked.

It would also be helpful to know which piece of audio hardware you're referring to, as well as what you ARE using for drivers.

Hi,

I have run the diagnostic tool - see the attached file.

The dump file info is in my OP.

The hardware I am using is the NI Komplete Audio 6

For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
Do the same for all.
Restart the computer.
At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.

And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the USB devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Let us know the results.

Thanks for your reply....I've just disabled the 'USB Selective Suspense', so hopefully that'll solve the problem.

Things I've tried so far which I forgot to mention in my OP....

Reinstalled/Updated Drivers for the NI K6
Used different USB ports
Uninstalled/Reinstalled/Updated USB controllers
Ran windows update
Virus/malware scans etc.

I've been searching several forums for other people who have experienced the same problem and it's a lot more common than I thought. I'd like to cover all bases, just incase, but to be honest I don't think there's anything that can be done... I'm mostly looking for reassurance that the BSOD will not damage my computer if allowed to repeatedly occur. If not, then i'm okay with leaving it be as the device only cuts off every few days or so.

Crashes, of whatever nature it may be, are not good, are not acceptable. Those should be eliminated.

Yes those may cause some damages there, depending on the nature of crashes.

If those continue to occur, let us know.

I'm still getting the same error unfortunately...

Edit: I'm going to try previewing the windows 8 upgrade; if that solves the problem, i'm buying it. If not i'll be back...
