BSOD Random crashes - Bugcode_USB_Driver_Error 0x000000FE

Yes I have removed all of the PCT drivers from device manager now but the two I found originally in C:\windows\drivers (PCTBD64.sys and PCTBD64.sys) are still sitting in this folder? Should they be removed? I am awaiting the next crash so I can get new logs. Of course, I am hoping that there won't be another crash but I have a feeling this won't be the case I will keep you posted. I will wait before I do anything else as I am trying to work through this systematically. Again, thanks for all your help. Chris

Have the drivers reappeared?

Yes they have from device manager. It hasn't BSOD that I have spotted yet but I have heard it reboot a few times and then I just get a black screen and have to switch it off and back on again to get it running again. I'm waiting to spot the BSOD to get another report.

Scan for corrupted or missing protected Windows files with System File Checker:

• SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Run some hard-drive testing procedures with:

• Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Additional tests which you can try:

• Disk Check
• CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World
• SeaTools for Windows | Seagate

I don't dare hope that this problem is fixed - but my laptop hasn't BSOD for 2 days! I wonder now if the reboot problem I had might have been some windows updates because I did do another update just before it kept rebooting randomly. The reboot issue where it doesn't always boot into windows might be a separate issue and I still occasionally get a message about not be able to load a driver - but no BSOD which is brilliant! The hard drive has stopped working overtime as well. I will give it a couple of days and report back again - or will report back should I get the BSOD in the meantime. The 2 PCT files are still there - C:\windows\drivers (PCTBD64.sys and PCTBD64.sys) but not sure how I can/should remove these? Unless I reinstall PCT and try uninstalling again cleanly - but I won't bother if they are not giving me grief? I will keep you posted anyway. Feeling quietly confident but I have had a couple of days before now without a crash but not recently so hoping it might have been PCT causing this. Thinking back, I originally had PCT installed but uninstalled it because it was giving me some issues. I installed AVG instead but then decided to unintall AVG and put PCT back on a while back. It may well have started a while after that so this could have been the issue all along. But I will wait a few more days before celebrating! Chris

Well.... I'm glad I didn't hold my breath! It has just BSOD again. It didn't manage to boot into Windows - got the black screen again but switched off and back on and F8 and have managed to collect the files which I am attaching. Also another file which was something I ran from the MS site a few days ago - not sure if it's useful. SO disappointed.... I do hope these files help identify the issue. Probably caused by : usbhub.sys ( usbhub!UsbhHubProcessChangeWorker+ec )

The USB Hub driver is the main cause of the crashes, since every dump has pointed to this driver, I would suggest a Repair Install and see if that resolves the issue:

These two files are linked to PC Tools, and I understand that the other PC Tools files are reappearing, with this issue I would suggest installing PC Tools again, and then using the official installer (if available) or uninstalling via Control Panel in Safe Mode, and then using a program such as CCleaner to attempt to clean up any left over files:
