Windows 7: BSOD playing league of legends. I feel like I'm going insane.

Hey guys,

Been getting various types of BSOD for the past 2 months. I've suffered through it for this long, stupidly thinking that I could fix it myself; but no more. I'm at the end of my tether. Please rescue me from this blue-tinted nightmare.

Here's how the BSODs are distributed:

90% occurring while playing League of Legends
5% occurring within a few minutes of windows loading AFTER a restart from a BSOD
5% occuring randomly

What I have done so far:

Re-installed Windows 7
Ran memory tests (passed)
Downgraded gpu driver to factory version and then upgraded it
UPDATED every single driver on this damn laptop! (even the hard drive sensor!) using Driver Genius
Monitored GPU temps. Temps are stable. Even using cooling fan now.
Reinstalled League of Legends. (what a waste of time that was!)
Ran Chkdsk ~ 100 times in these past 2 months and passed every time
Ran Malwarebytes
Uninstalled Avast and replaced it with MSE
Updated Windows
Even reinstalled .net 4.0 framework
BIOS @ latest version
Defragged HD
Even updated flash and java
Even updated damn add-ons in firefox!

I don't know what to do. I can't afford to replace the laptop in my current situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

► Get rid of intel rapid storage.

Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
It will open the "computer management" window.
Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.

► Uninstall Daemon Tools. It is the most well known BSOD causer.

► Free up the startup.

Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.

► Update Display Driver. It is very old.

Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, follow option two to search for the appropriate driver for your system automatically, and install it.

► Some USBPORT.sys related issues are there.
For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
Do the same for all.
Restart the computer.
At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.

And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Let us know the results.
(If you report that your Network related crashes are continuing after doing everything I suggested, I will not be astonished; coz I havent suggested you anything about Antivirus yet, coz usually the OPs fail to take this suggestion rightly). Best of luck.

Hi Arc,

Thanks for replying. I did all of the things you listed. The USB uninstall part scared me though - after restarting the computer, it failed to load windows. This happened a few times until I ran startup repair which resulted in it saying that it could not repair. Luckily, it managed to load successfully after that.

As for the graphics driver; I actually updated it a few days ago. I believe you were just reading a dump from a day when I reset driver back to factory version to test it.

Intel driver - I have the current version according to site.

The bad news it that the issue has not gone away. While playing, computer just suddenly froze. No BSOD, just hang until I held down the power switch to force a shutdown. Not the first time this has happened though.

Attached is the most reason BSOD.

where ntkrnlmp.exe cannot be the right cause of a crash.

According to Carrona.org, STOP 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Overclocking failure, Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

So you see there are a lot of things that may cause such a crash.

► Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight, per RAM module per slot.

► Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

► Use Microsoft Security Essentials.
Uninstall MBAM Pro, with tools.
Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Also, search for any BIOS update if available, get rid of overclock.

Let us know the results.

That's exactly what I told, in my first post in this thread. Almost nobody take it rightly, coz everybody have utmost faith on their hardware, software and settings. Sometimes fact differ from faith.

MBAM pro comes with a real time security, not only an on demand scanner. Two real time protection programs are nothing any good, but bad actually. And in this particular trade, MSE is the best. MBAM is also a best program, but not as a real time protector, but as an on demand scanner.
