Windows 7: BSOD Playing Almost all games

Memeter shows usage at around 80% (around 6 out of 8GB) but the task manager and my keyboard applet says that only around 40% of RAM is being used. Also I cant get it to bluescreen now, rather the crashes simply just freeze the whole system and force me to restart

Memeter is showing around 80% usage, while task manager and my keyboard applet show around 40%, unfortunately the blue screens are not occuring (they never do when you want them to) rather the entire system is crashing, often following a few "The display driver has stopped responding and recovered" messages, forcing me to restart

EDIT - Apologies for the double post, I did not see that it went through and I am not sure how to delete, sorry!

"Display driver stopped responding and now recovered" - a popup baloon from the systrey ?

Well.... is the graphics card under warranty? If so RMA it. Otherwise, try some other versions of display driver; wishfully think that any version will be able to fix it. This error is hardware error in most of the cases, and too random to replicate.

I am a victim. After trying everything at last I abandoned my earlier card.

You see the problem is, I took the card back to the supplier and have tested it in friends computers and it is certainly not faulty!

I will keep trying to replicate a BSOD, I have also posted to other forums and have tried some other fixes (possibly being caused by Avast! Antivirus), any other help would be much appreciated.

I might try plugging in my old 9800GT to see whether I can see if it is the video card causing the issues

Some common instructions are:
  • Update the display driver to the latest (I hope you have already done)
  • Check the temperature of the card, and the system as a whole. Use Speccy. If it is hot, try additional cooling.
  • Clean the inside of the computer carefully, specially the air vents and fan grills.
I have told you, this fault is too random to replicate. Avast may cause BSOD, but not this one. Not at all. I faced this issue myself. If is not BSOD, but a hardware fault in 99% of cases.

What you have planned is the best step. Try with another card, or try with onboard graphics.

Yep! I will try with both my old NVIDIA 9800GT and the Onboard graphics and see if the errors still occur. Thanks for the ongoing support

Try the other instructions ... update the drivers for both the other graphics options.

Crashes still seem to be occuring with 9800GT, although they may be attributed to overheating. I will not have access to the internet for a few days (surely a fate worse than death) and will try and do some more extensive testing to see.

But to note the 7970 did work fine in a friends PC and also was tested to be operational at the retailer.
