I have to point out that none of these products were problematic during the last 2 or 3 years.
It strikes me as strange that the problem only arose after I re-installed Windows 7 and re-installed the various products, especially since these products are in common use and some are in fact distributed by the MB manufacturer.
In any case, I am busy carrying out your recommendations.
Will post the results as soon as.................

    :)

I am not in favor of any motherboard utilities because they usually will at some point cause problems. Many of them are just a revamp of tasks w7 can already do.

    Perhaps so.
Although I will admit I was guilty of taking the easy route and clicking "Install All".

    Followed all steps.
Had a bit of a problem with AMD_XATA.SYS (or AMDXATA.SYS) found numerous references to the file, including downloads from a variety of sites but nothing related to a driver update package.
Found reference to the file in the ATI driver package so ran the latest version of that but even after that completed I could not find the file anywhere on my PC.
In any event the BSOD on return from sleep no longer occurs.

    Thanks a million.

And there is no more sptd.sys.

Hope the annoying BSODs will not return :)

    Just discovered an added bonus:
I can now run Windows Backup!
Previously I got some strange error which had something to do with shadow files and customised library content.

So I owe you guys double thanks.

Good to hear! No thanks needed, but you could email a pint of dark ale.
