    ASUS N61JV regular crashes

    Hi,

Really could use some help here... Using a windows 7 64 on a asus N61JV pc. The PC keeps restarting regularly. Tried updating all drivers but this did not make a difference. I have collected and attached the diagnostic info. I hope you could give me a hint on how to get ride of this irritating behavior. I am contemplating to upgrade to win 8 but doubt if this would cure the problem.

    Welcome aboard.

Apparently it is caused by Atheros network adapter driver.

    Code:

Update it from ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????).

At the same time, I would suggest you to uninstall AVG. (due to all the NETIO.sys and tcpip.sys trigger)
Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

    Uninstall the asus bloatwares.
    Code:
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Video Magic
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Video Magic\MediaShow Espresso
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS\ASUS AP Bank
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS\ASUS WebStorage
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Utility
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Utility\ASUS CopyProtect
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Utility\ASUS Live Update
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Utility\ASUS Splendid Utility
    Start Menu\Programs\ASUS Utility\SmartLogon
    Free up the startup.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept the restart.

    Let us know the results.

    Hi,

Thanks for looking into it! I have tried to find newer drivers and installed them however the wireless will not work at all with these drivers so had to roll back multiple times. I did however switch off the power save mode on the wireless as I found on the asus site

    If you have different ideas.....

    Thanks

    Hi,

tried to update the drivers again. Found out that the reason why the new drivers did not work was the ASUS wireless consol. After updating this as well it is running and connecting with the new drivers. Hope to see a difference.

    Thanks!

It is caused by NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver.

Try update it from Support/Design | Renesas Electronics. You may need to register first.

thanks again! updated this driver as well. It sucks to find these drivers to the manufacture sites. They still offer the 2009 drivers...... Hope we gain stability
