I currently only have one in as I took one out so that I could try and do the memtest and it started normally but if I try and boot from the USB (with memtest set up on it) then I get the the black screen and it beeps (on, off rapidly) until I restart it with the button on the front.

Erm... ok.. The RAM and Processor I bought new just under a year ago (around last xmas). The GPU I got in June (around my birthday). The hard drive I bought new, can't remember when but it is no more then a year old max. The CD drive I don't know as I got it free for second hand from a mate. The motherboard is no more then a year and a half old which I bought new too. The power supply was new about the same time as the GPU (June this year).

    Why is Windows not activated?

Did you just recently install or reinstall Windows 7?

You mentioned not having activated yet - can I ask why?
MSE will happily install on systems that are still in their grace period.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Yeah my board does have VGA.
It is not activated because I got a 30 day trial which ran out and my sister has a laptop which used to have windows 7 but she recently upgraded to windows 8 so I want to find out if I can use her old windows 7 key (as she is now not using) to activate mine.

That explains a lot - your system is installed using the Default Key, which can never be activated
Your system is currently non-genuine because it's over the grace period of 30 days allowed for activation.

Your sister's Key (assuming Windows 7 came pre-installed on her laptop) cannot be used on any other computer than that one.

Please change the Key to a valid one and activate - this will also allow the system to pick up performace and ancillary updates which may reduce if not cure your problems.

Aaah well in that case I will try and get a valid key and activate it over Christmas, would that mean wiping my hard drive and installed windows 7 again? Or is there an easy way around that?

It's just a case of swapping the new Key in - you'll have to have a Full Retail or OEM System Builder license (upgrades don't work)
Once you have it, click on the Start button and in the Search bar, type
    SLUI 3
hit the Enter key, and follow the instructions.
