    BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL


    Hey all!

    I'm getting pretty frequent BSODs lately when playing online games. I've been getting random ones for the past few months, but now it's almost every night playing Borderlands (the first one). I ran BlueScreenView and last night the BSOD was caused by my Realtek LAN driver. I updated that hoping it would fix the issue, but tonight I got another one that only had ntoskrnl.exe listed. So I ran MemTestx86+ for an hour or so to check the RAM and no errors reported.

    Oh, I just remembered that I did run DriverVerify on that Realtek LAN driver so that may have been the cause for the BSOD tonight (I forgot it was still running). But I updated the driver to the latest one from the Gigabyte website so I don't know why it wouldn't be verified.

    I'm not sure what else to do so maybe you guys can help me figure this out! Thanks!

    AVG can contribute in BSOD-s. Please uninstall it and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials (To test).


    MSE is recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software:- Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

    Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

    Run the System File Checker. It allows the user to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files.
    • 1. Click on the
      2. Type CMD on Search
      3. Left click and Run as Administrator
      4. Type SFC /scannow

    Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:


    Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed:


    For monitoring the heat/celsius of the system, use Speccy or HWinfo:


    *Update network drivers.
