    Consistent BSOD after apx. 1-2 hrs computer usage


    All:

    I have had my computer for about 1 year, and had not had any problems with it until now. I built it myself, and I can provide specs if that would be helpful (please let me know). Recently, I started experiencing a BSOD that occurs pretty consistently after about 1-2 hours of computer usage. It does not appear that it relates to any particular application, so I am concerned it is a hardware issue. It started occurring shortly after a recent upgrade of Skype, so at first I thought that could be related. However, I rolled back my system with system restore, and the problem still manifests. To the extent this is a hardware issue, I would like to determine the affected component so that I can buy a new one ASAP. Please let me know if additional information would be helpful.

    Hello elementbrdr.

    Try to update of the firmware of your Crucial SSD.

    Get rid of intel rapid storage.

    1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
    2. It will open the "computer management" window.
    3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
    4. Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
    5. Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
    6. Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
    7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.

    Let us know the results.

    Arc, Many thanks. I will give that a shot and let you know the results. In your experience, has a SSD ever started acting up after such a long period not causing problems? Also, can you explain how you determined the SSD may be the root cause? I don't know how to interpret the error files I posted.

    Stop 0xF4 is a storage/Disc related bugcheck. So it is something to do with the Discs. A search revealed that you are using a 65 GB Crucial, and you haven't updated the firmware after the purchase of the computer for sure. So it is a must that you are to update it.

    And yes, if the firmware of SSD is not up to date, this problem may arise, and it arises very frequently. Check this section of our forum, you will get a lot of instances.

    Arc, I applied the firmware update, removed the intel program, and uninstalled the disk drives. Everything seems fine right now. Many thanks for your help. I'll check back in a couple days to confirm / disconfirm the ultimate success of the fix.
