Uncle getting white screen crash

Uncle using Acer X1300 slimline is getting rare white screen crashes, generating no crash dump. I have set it to yield a small crash dump file but not sure with white screen.

Resolved all errors including MSE OOBE error which would not resolve after standard fixes so I uninstalled MSE to default to Defender (behind router firewall) but kept generating OOBE error anyway, so I deleted MS Security and Anti-Malware folders out of Program Data which ended error.

At the same time I installed the factory chipset.

Nothing seems to work including updating all drivers, rolling back display to older version, etc.

So I guess I'm asking what else to look for with white screen crash.

White screen crash sounds like a hardware failure to me.

I'm very suspicous about his Logitech webcam but it's turned off in Startup and Services and can only run on demand. Can a buggy logitech driver still cause whitescreen if not running?

My understanding is yes a bad driver can still cause that problem even if the program is not running at boot.

He installed the full Logitech crapware package so I'm tempted to uninstall it and just let Updates deliver the driver WIn7 wants for the cam. He hardly uses it anyway. But I thought I'd handled that bay turning it off in startup when I first began troubleshooting this, two crashes ago.

I have also found this.

-------------------------------

In windows 7:
If you havent already resolved the issue, you will need to navigate to: C:/program data/microsoft/microsoft security essentials/support/ > then locate the file: "MSSEOOBE.etl" and simply delete it.
Once you restart the computer, MSE will recreate it, and that should resolve the issue.

Thanks Layback. I'd first tried that fix which has always worked in the past, but there was no such file and deleting another OOBE file didn't help. MSE kept generating the error after I'd cleared all other errors except one which is persistent at boot but which googles to be harmless per MS - I'll post it up later.

So I uninstalled MSE because I want no issues onboard until I see if prob goes away. But OOBE error persisted until I unhid Program Data and deleted MS Security and Anti-Malware folders. It probably was nothing but I wanted it gone for now.

Unhide Data and making sure nothing is left in Recycle Bin is important. I would also check Services and see if anything MSE is hiding. I try to remember that any program that scans for infections has a way of getting in all kinds of nicks and crannies of a operating system.
I also use this little program for searching.
