BSOD 0x00000101 while running certain games.#

For a few months, I have been experiencing BSOD problems with certain games, such as Sleeping Dogs, and the Mass Effect 2 Demo. Other games, such as Max Payne 3 and Assassin's Creed Revelation have not been a problem.

I can be gaming for 10-30 minutes when the PC will hang. After a few seconds it will either correct itself or crash, and it will within 2 minutes hang again and crash.

I have verified my drivers, and in the process replaced some drivers for mouse and keyboard with MS generic drivers, and I have made sure all drivers and directx are fully up to date as far as I can. The BIOS is the latest version and the processor is listed as compatible with the board, MSI H61M-P31 (G3) v1.0

I have exhaustively bench-tested my RAM, NVidia card and processor. At one time, I was convinced the fault was with the processor and so for a while, borrowed a processor from work (I work at a small independent PC hardware store!) and tested my machine. It seemed to solve the problem, so I approached Intel, and their customer services guy advised me to burn-in test the original processor to verify a fault, and it passed after six hours of testing. I suspect there is no hardware fault, but if there was one at all, I'd wager it is the processor. I cannot return the CPU through work because our supply chain insists warranty is handled by Intel.

I reloaded from the Windows 7 installation DVD recently when I changed my HDD for an SSD, and have experienced exactly the same fault before and after.

My partner has an identical graphics card, and other components can be borrowed from work, including the same model motherboard, so swapping out components is no problem, but I feel sure it is software.

In my event log, please disregard the driver message about my HTC phone -- the fault predates the phone by months.

Weirdly, the fault seems to have started around the same time I swapped my monitor for my dad's. I had Acer AL1706, was not detected correctly by system (no driver I suspect) and so DirectX 11 games would only play Windowed. I swapped for his slightly newer model, Acer AL1716 and DirectX 11 games would play fullscreen. I believe it is purely coincidental, but have included this info just in case.

My thanks to anyone who can help!

    By the way...

BIOS settings are all default except SATA mode is AHCI, not IDE and boot priorities. I also have Ubuntu 12.10 and boot via GRUB, but the fault predates the installation of Ubuntu.

Strong suspicion motherboard fault. Testing using a borrowed MoBo from work at the moment, held up for hours on end. Gonna keep MoBo, return my old one.
