BSOD while watching films, pausing or scrubbing in particular

    hi,

having lots of BSOD at the moment. have just recently water cooled my PC, so done some major overclocking. of course the first thing i did when i got BSOD was to put the system back to stock settings.
    it keeps happening.

some other things to note: i have two gtx 580s, one evga, and one zotac, both of them watercoooled. I recently flashed ubdated bios to the cards, to increase the voltage limit so i could overclock them more. again i set them back to stock speeds, still getting BSOD. they both had diffrent bios, now they are both running EVGA e-Geforce GTX 580 SuperClocked bios, version 70.10.20.00.81
i have saved both the original bios of each card, and can flash back if necessary, but im not so sure thats the problem.

another odd thing to note: whilst overclocking i was playing around with overclocking my memory, increasing the speed, which actually had little effect on performance, so i set it back to its rated speed of 1866.
the odd thing is that i went it to change the timings, and the timings were not set at their rated value of 9 9 9 24, i think they were at 10 10 10 30. anyway i just have a feeling this is a memory problem not a GPU thing.

im sure you guys will know.

i have attached the crash zip as instructed. also i put as much system details as i could when i registered. if there is anything else you need to know, just ask.

thanks very much for you time

Update your ASUS Xonar Essence STX Audio Device driver from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download.

Update OCZ 10xx SCSI Controller Driver from OCZ Technology.

Update Ralink RT2870 series USB802.11n Wireless Adapter Driver from Ralink-A MEDIATEK COMPANY.

Do some general USB related Maintenance. For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

    1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
    2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
    3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
    4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
    5. Do the same for all.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.

And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

    • Double click to open it.
    • Click this button only:
    • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

    Free up the startup.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept the restart.

    Uninstall this program:
    Code:
    Start Menu\Programs\MSI Afterburner
    Let us know the results.

Apparently these are the principle issues uppermost. And you need to fix those at once. If after doing all those, some problems persist, we need to search further.

About the SSD .... is it within warranty? Coz, as I have seen, in a few cases it crashed on the latest firmware too, for this particular model, and if it happen for you too, you may need to contact OCZ.

i think its in warranty. i have been putting of updating the firmware for a while now, was going to do a clean install at some point and do it then.
its a real pain cos i have to use my laptop hdd to run windows to flash the new firmware.
its a good ssd, but i have noticed that it get really really hot. i just changed my case, and there is less airflow on it now, could that have something to do with it?

    Good plan. Do it.

Also, download the other drivers I mentioned in the other post in the second computer, and when doing the clean install, install those drivers.

hey brother, its been a long day!!!

finished the clean instal. updated the firmware and the drivers on the revodrive. got the latest sound driver for my STX.
but my wifi dongle is a belkin not ralink, the latest driver for it has never worked so i just use an older version that has worked for years for me.
so i just got BSOD again. opening a film in media browser (WMC plug in)
