BSOD on login. STOP:000000a irql_not_less_or_equal

Hello,

This is my first post. I am having an issue where upon logging in I see nothing besides a black screen and my cursor, eventually my desktop loads and then I get the aforementioned BSOD stop error. I have configured my computer to create a small memory dump as seen in the posting instructions but my computer will not create the file in the C:\windows\minidump folder after getting the BSOD.

Also, I can boot into safe mode and log in without any issues.

If anyone can please help me I would be very appreciative.

Thank you for your time,
Artaeus

Hello

First off if your OCing in anyway stop, return everything to stock settings for the purposes of testing

If you havent already, fill in your system specs so we know what we are dealing with
System Info - See Your System Specs

Make sure you have read the guide on asking for help with BSOD so you know what we need
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html
And if necessary set your machine to create minidumps (Method 2 Step 2 is easiest IMO)
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Run some scans to check against virus or infection
http://support.kaspersky.com/5350
Windows Defender Offline

Run some basic hardware tests
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Disk Check (windows based check)
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure (bootable disk check)

If i were you going on the fact that safemode works (which is basically a stripped down basic drivers version of windows) i would start by running a clean boot Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup and see if you can get back in to windows normally

Hello Pauly and thank you for the reply.

I have not Overclocked anything and have listed my system specs on my profile. I have also configured my computer to create the dump file but something has been preventing the creation of the file and have also downloaded the sf diagnostic tool but decided not to run it as instructed as I have no crash dump file. I am running a virus scan with Malwarebytes as I type and also updated Avira (which I need to reboot to use). If I find nothing at all, I take it that I should try the clean boot and follow the guide? I will post back with any updates as well.

Yes mate i think as safe mode works theres a good chance to get to normal desktop through clean boot then we have more options/easier to work with etc
Post back your results and/or any developments

Ok, while I wait for malwarebytes to finish its scan I have a question. I know I'm supposed to have the .zip from the sf diagnostic tool but didn't have the dump file so I did not upload it. What would prevent my system from crating the file upon crashing?

I would still run the tool even without dump files as that tool grabs several logs and system file that are full of info like installed programs and info on installed drivers etc which is not as good as a dump file but all useful
What method did you use to configure to create dumps, have you double checked it worked/stuck

I followed the guide on here to configure my computer to create small memory dumps in startup and recovery. I ran the tool and uploaded the .zip as well.
Thanks again.

Creating Mini dump by changing registry setting

Hi there

I have a BSOD issue and have a post on this site hoping for some help. I went a long time trying to get my machine to create a minidump but the setting always reverted to default so one was not created.

I finally got one created by altering the registry directly to do so. Let me know if you still need a hand and want to try that and I will send you what I did.

Hi Steve,

I would greatly appreciate that. It seems that my settings are not being changed back but it still wouldn't hurt to try that out.

Thank you.

Hi, this is the directions I found and followed after months of trying to create a file to help solve my BSOD. Still working on it but now at least have a dump file to help troubleshoot.

Good Luck

You can make this MiniDump change in the Registry, by setting the following value:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl]
"CrashDumpEnabled"=dword:00000003
However, be aware that this Registry change affects the system only after reboot.
