Can anyone help with this glitch?

Hi everyone, I know that this is not a major problem like getting the BSOD, but if you can help me eliminate this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the issue: Many of my programs will either check to see if there are newer versions when they are opened, or have a button in a dropdown to check for newer versions. These options will take me to the website for that program allowing me to download the newer version. Two days ago this suddenly became a problem. Now what is happening is instead of taking me to the program website, something is causing Microsoft Word (2010) to open up. Then a picture of the website page is opened as a Word document, which is non functional(as far as clicking on any buttons or updating). I have tried to search for this issue, but I have been unable to find anything. If it will be of any help, I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

What browser are you using? Have you checked your system for any bugs...viruses, malware and spyware?

I am using IE9. I have McAfee Security Center through ATT. I ran it through a deep scan and double checked to make sure that the firewall was working. I also ran IOBIT Advanced System Care and Virus Scan. I also did a Restore from a previous time when I knew everything was working properly. I can not figure out how Word is intercepting only my update checks.

I highly recommend removing Advanced System Care. It has caused many many problems for others. Then go back to a restore point before your problems started. Another suggestion is removing McAfee. In my opinion McAfee is malware at best.
Use their website for the removal tool. Then use MSE as your anti virus and the built in Windows 7 Firewall.
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows
Then run a full update scan with MSE.
If you decide to do this I would run this to make sure Windows 7 System Files are still okay.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
