Random BSOD on laptop, can't find a pattern

Hi,

This is the laptop that I have:

ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS U46E

I have the i5 version, with a 750GB hard drive that I now put in an optical bay caddy (2nd HDD / SSD Caddy, Asus U41sv, U43jc, U46e, U47a, U50vg, U56e [OBHD9-SATA-SATA-BU9] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks) as a storage drivea nd I use a Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB SSD as my OS drive:

The installation went fine, and things were just nice and dandy. But the problem of my USB 3.0 hub persist, even today. I posted before about how USB 3.0 drives can't seem to really connect to my laptop. Transfers over 1GB will disconnect before the transfer completes. I thought that maybe a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new drive would help, and it kind of did. When I'm successful, the transfers to my SSD are blazing fast. But as of late, it's very hit and miss. I'm certain something is wrong with my USB 3.0 port. Sometimes when I connect a USB 3.0 hard drive, the hard drive will not show up in My Computer and when I check Device Manager, my USB 3.0 driver will have encountered an error. From there, I have to reinstall the driver and sometimes I get lucky and I can connect my drive again. Sometimes I'm not.

This may all seem irrelevant, but it was during this process that my most recent BSOD happened. I was trying to reinstall the driver (I'll attach it) and all of a sudden my screen went blank and the computer restarted. If anyone could help with this, I'd really appreciate it. If anyone can help with my USB 3.0 issue (the device in Device Manager is Fresco Logic xHCI (USB3) Controller FL1000 Series) that would be awesome too, but I think the only thing I can do is try to get someone to replace the port.

Usual causes: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

Uninstall Daemon tools. It causes problems sometimes.

Your BIOS is not v ery old, still you may search fr an update, if possible.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

• Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
• Windows Defender Offline

Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.


Let us know the results.

I uninstalled daemon tools and proceeded to run the drivers. I've run it for 40 minutes and it is non-stop BSOD and restarting. How long is it supposed to run? How do I stop it?

Okay, here is the updated SF Diagnostic Tool zip. I'm going to run the virus scanners now. Thank you for all your help!

Also, I scanned using Windows Defender Offline and nothing was found.

Better you uninstall it. But if you want to continue with it, have the latest version. There is no version update after that one you are using, November 2010.

All the dumps pointing out to the same thing, Peerblock. So, boot into Advanced Boot Options > safe mode with networking. Download and install Revo Uninstaller Freeware, and uninstall PeerBlock using the advanced mode of Revo.

After that, continue with Driver Verifier enabled, if it catches anything more.

Sorry for the delayed response but there have been no hiccups since. However, today, I moved a couple of files from the SSD to the HDD and they went with no problem. Just now however, I tried to move another file (4.37GB) and my laptop bluescreened. Is this related to peerblocker again? I reinstalled it (I forgot why) but I don't think it was active when this happened. Is something wrong with my hard drive or SSD?

Also, I ran the SF Diagnostic Tool before just fine but today I'm getting a new error. I've attached a screenshot. I click continue but nothing happens so I click on each individual button to grab the necessary files.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Alcohol at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

• Double click to open it.
• Click this button only:
• 
• If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver, SynTPEnh.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

Thank you for the reply! Is there an alternative for Alcohol/daemon tools? Also, after freeing up the startup and restarting, if nothing happens, do I simply re-enable the items I disabled?
