BSOD on start up and during gaming error driver-irql_not_less_or_equal

CPU: Core i7 950

Cooler: Scythe Mugen

Ram: Crucial XMS 8gb 1600ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

Graphics: XFX HD6870 DD edition

PSU: Enermax MODU82 425w 80+ PSU

HDD: Samsung 500gb 7200rpm

recently acquired pc, had trouble booting first time from get go. explored bios issues, driver updating, psu issue- all inconclusive. over time it has booted less and less and over the last two weeks is displaying the dreaded BSOD with the error "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" and another error "bad pool header" i'm at a loss, tried everything i could think to investigate: on device manager security processor load driver and avast network shield support both have a exclamation point next to them . . . thank you

Hello multicolor.

Avast is one of the causes.
Code:
fffff880`03569068 fffff880`04611327Unable to load image \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\aswSnx.SYS, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for aswSnx.SYS
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for aswSnx.SYS
 aswSnx+0x5327
Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Update the network drivers.
First, download the network card driver from manufactuer's website.
NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter: Welcome to NETGEAR Support
Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC: Realtek
Then reinstall the driver:
  1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
  2. Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
  3. Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
  4. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
  5. Restart the computer
  6. If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually. Driver Install - Device Manager
The intel Rapid Storage driver is very old.
Code:
fffff880`01255000 fffff880`01371000 iaStor (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\iaStor.sys
    Image name: iaStor.sys
    Timestamp: Fri Jun 05 07:23:40 2009 (4A287AA4)
    CheckSum: 000640D7
    ImageSize: 0011C000
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
Download ind install this one.

If you dont use Xbox wireless receiver, uninstall it. Otherwise update the drivers, too; from Software Downloads | Microsoft Hardware

Free up the startup.
  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Let us know the results.

I tried downloading the network driver and installing it but it didn't work so I did a system restore from after I uninstalled avast, then realized I had the disk for my wireless network so i used that to update the driver.
Just started to update the Intel Rapid Storage driver but this is were I am stuck i don't have a RAID or AHCI driver to update I have a gigabyte GBB36X controller(showing up in device manager), but when i search in the start menu gigabyte raid configuration says it cant start as the device is not installed. and vice versa when i search for Intel matrix storage unit; even tho Intel isn't even showing up in the device manager.

In that case, uninstall Raid driver and matrix storage.

For any further problems, let us know.
