    BSOD on Entering Sleep & Hibernate Modes

    For some time now, occasionally (but more frequently these past two weeks) when I have my laptop enter either Sleep or Hibernate Mode, it will proceed to enter Sleep/Hibernate mode, but then hang on a blank screen for 10-15 min, and then I will get a BSOD with error similar to POWER_DRIVER_STATE_FAILURE or something (cannot remember exactly the name).

    I have attached the needed zip file. If there is any other information that I could provide that would help, please let me know.

    If anyone could provide some insight as to what is going on and how to remedy this, it would be greatly apprecaited!

    Update it from Intel Download Center.

    Plan to update the BIOS. It is very old.
    Code:
    BiosVendor = Hewlett-Packard
    BiosVersion = F.56
    BiosReleaseDate = 05/14/2008
    SystemManufacturer = Hewlett-Packard
    SystemProductName = HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC
    You have 29 items stored in Startup. Free up the startup.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver, SynTP.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept the restart.

    Let us know the results. There may be some other issues, but these are to be done at first.

    Arc,

    Thank you very much for your response.

    Per your advice, I have updated the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Adapter driver, and have removed most of the startup items.

    Regarding the Intel Storage driver, I was looking at the associated README file in the link you provided and it seems that I may not meet the requirements for that driver - my storage controller (ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) is not listed as one that would work, nor do I have one of the 3 processor types listed. If you could confirm that this is in fact the correct driver or not, it would be appreciated. [Driver Download] [READ ME file]

    Finally, regarding the BIOS - I had considered updating this a while back, however the BIOS update that HP provided is for Vista, and I was not sure that it would work for me since I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. If you could let me know if I could use the Vista BIOS update or not, it would be appreciated. Here is the link - [HP BIOS Update].

    Regarding my laptop, it is an HP dv6885se, now running Windows 7 Professional. Not sure if this will help, but I have attached images of my Device Manager and Computer Info. If you would like another log, please let me know.

    Again, thank you very much for your help!

    Regards,
    MadKel

    I have asked my friend Dave76 to have a look in your thread. He will guide you about what BIOS you need, and the other Intel drivers.

    I searched the Intel Driver site for your chipset and it's confirmed this driver will work.
    Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver Version:11.2.0.1006
    Third file down is the one you want.

    I have a similar aged Dell laptop that is running the above driver, no problems.
    Most OEM, including HP and Dell, don't keep the driver list updates for very long. I always get newer drivers from the source, like Intel RST/Graphics/wireless etc.

    BIOS has nothing to do with the OS version.
    BIOS initializes the hardware and turns it over to the OS, any Windows version, any Linex version, etc.
    Your link only states:
    Fix/Enhancement: Adds support for the AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.
    It may not be necessary but, won't hurt anything either. If you feel comfortable updating your BIOS, then do it.

    Dave,

    Thank you for your help. I tried to install both the BIOS update and the storage driver you recommended - unfortunately, neither was able to be installed.

    For the BIOS, I would get a weird quanta.vbs file that would open, then upon closing it, the BIOS update would load. Then the WinFlash dialog box would open, but when I clicked Flash BIOS, I would get an error message stating that the 'BIOS.WPH' could not be found.

    As for the Intel Storage Driver, upon installation, it would state that my system did not meet the minimum system requirements and then abort.

    Do you have any insight to this?

    Thanks,
    MadKel

    That is strange on both counts.

    Check the voltage on your CMOS battery.
    Download HWiNFO32
    Click on the 'Sensors' tab, scroll down you will see 'VBat voltage', it should be above 3.0v.
    Post a snip of the entire sensor section, will take 2 snips to get it all.

    Post the drivers from 'Device manager', IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (second snip in post #3), double click on both 'Intel' listings and then driver tab, post the driver version and date.

    Dave76,

    Thanks again for following up.

    Please see below for the attached screenshots of the Sensors info that you requested.

    For the Intel IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, the driver info is as follows (I attached screenshots of these as well):

    Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850:
    Driver Version: 6.1.7601.17514
    Driver Date: 6/21/2006

    Intel ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller:
    Driver Version: 8.7.0.1007
    Driver Date : 12/4/2008

    If there is anything else you need, just let me know.

    Thank you.

    Try installing this: Intel Matrix Storage Manager for the supported notebook models and operating systems. It is used to install or update the Intel Serial ATA (SATA) Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) Controller Driver.

    Intel Matrix Storage Manager for HP Pavilion dv6885se Entertainment Notebook PC.

    Did you follow this procedure from the HP site?
    Updating the BIOS
    Double check you have downloaded the correct BIOS for your laptop. If the BIOS update won't install it usually means it's not the correct version for your laptop.
