BSOD at random points, even after reinstalling windows.

Hey. I'm getting a BSOD at completely random times, and can't figure out any reason why it happens. I even reinstalled Windows, hoping it would fix it, but no dice. Hoping someone here would be able to help me with it, thanks in advance!

Hi Regien and welcome to SF

Firstly can you please update to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and ensure all windows updates are installed.

Your AVG Anti-virus should be uninstalled.

Please install Microsoft Security Essentials:

Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software.
It is free and lightweight:-

Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and resolve any file system corruption:

Quote:
Click on the Start > Type in search cmd
Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
At the promt type Chkdsk /f /r (note the space between chkdsk and /f/r)

Also please perform a System File Check:

Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
Type SFC /scannow at the prompt

Please post back any results.

I've done all that, and it seems to be fixed, but... It actually seems that Tumblr was the reason for it. I started visiting it a few days ago, and that's when all this started, so on a whim I stopped visiting it, and now it seems to be fine, but I'll report back if anything else happens. Thank you very much!

Hi Regien,

hmmm...not sure if tumblr (blog hosting website) was your fault as your logs indicated:

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM bug check has a value of 0x00000024. This indicates a problem occurred in ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives.

Nevertheless......Glad to hear its resolved.

And please do pop back if you have this or any other issues and please mark thread solved if you
feel it has been.

Cheers

Dave
