BSOD every hour or so, error 0x00000f4 and KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Issues started around Friday 10PM. Computer will freeze up application by application, and then BSOD. First time it happened, it changed the boot priority away from my default Crucial M4 SSD. I fixed that issue, ran several virus checks, and did a system restore to at least a week back.

Computer continues to BSOD on me every hour, and maybe two if I'm lucky with the same process. The only difference is sometimes I get the error 0x00000f4 (without any error text) instead of KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. I have absolutely not clue what to do to fix this.

I enabled memorydump, but even after repeated crashes, it will not create a file or folder.

Okay, will try and follow those suggestions. Computer crashed last night and once again switched my boot priority if that means anything. Still no detected viruses through different scans.

Big question for now, is there a way to manually upgrade the drivers for my SSD? I went to the Crucial Website and it says I dont have any SSDs that need updates, but I am quite sure it does need updates.

Go to device manager, expand disk drives, right click on your Crucial and select properties. Click the details tab, in the property dropdown tab, the second one down is hardware ID, click that. The numbers/letters on the end is your SSD firmware. You'll see mine is 000F. And, no mine is not up to date. But that is by choice. You can go to the crucial site, choose your type device from the drop down box and manually download the firmware and instructions

I just downloaded the Windows update tool and updated mine. It was quick and easy. You'll see I have a different firmware now.

Checked the current firmware on the SSD and saw that it was version 0002; severely outdated. Shortly thereafter, I think I pinpointed the problem.

M4 customers,

We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition.

Through our investigation, we have determined the root cause of the problem and will be releasing a firmware update that rectifies the situation. We are currently running through our validation and compatibility process. Once this process is complete, the firmware will be made available to our customers. Although we understand the desire of some people to start using unreleased firmware now, we want to ensure that our solution works across multiple chipsets, systems, and operating systems before publishing the release code. We are currently targeting the week of January 16th, 2012 to publicly release the new firmware update.

We understand the impact that this is having on some users right now and apologize for this inconvenience. We appreciate your continued support, feedback, and patience as we finalize code and resolve this issue.

This was taken from the official Crucial site. I've no idea how I missed this, but I successfully upgraded the firmware to 040H. It has been over the usual time of BS and working so far. Will update if it is still working at a later time.
