Solved Thought BSODs had been done in, but NO!

Small Question.
Do you still have Advanced System Care off of your system or did you reinstall it?

Thanks for link! Clean install of Nvidia's 314.07 driver set completed. A question: although the drivers are those found by Nvidia's probe, my adapter does not support some items in 314.07. The unsupported items are:
3D Vision ,Physx.

Best diable or completely remove, or leave be?

Found something a little strange whilst looking for unwanted program folders. I have two of Nvidia Corporation.
The onw that has earlier dated contents has fewer folders than the later, but all the earlier dated folder's contemts are in the later. Why that is I don't understand, but might it be a possible cause of some of my troubles?

I'll have a friend look in, there is a specific way to uninstall nVIDIA drivers. DriverSweeper doesn't do the whole job.

I has been uninstalled way back in thread progress

can find no trace incl in registry of anything other than the new installation

What is the latest driver from Dell? Some manufacturers customize their video drivers for their machines, and the ones from Nvidia will not work. I was told that Dell was one of those. Download the latest driver to your desktop. To clean the drivers, look in C:/Nvidia. There should be a folder there called display drivers. Inside that folder you will find folders for all drivers you have installed, they will be named by their number such as 296.11, 304.23 and such. Delete those folders but do not delete the display drivers folder. Open Control panel and find Nvidia files. If you have an Nvidia chipset driver do not delete that. Delete all the NVidia 3D, PhysX, Nvidia update And this is important, delete the Nvidia display driver last. When you delete the Nvidia display driver you will be prompted to restart your computer, do so. When you have restarted install the Driver you downloaded from Dell. If during the install you have the option, select custom install, make sure the 'clean install' box is checked. You can select which drivers you want installed except the display driver by using the check boxes. Only install the display driver and the PhysX driver (if your system will use it) Do not install any of the other drivers unless you especially need them. If you do not have the option of custom install, it's OK. When completed you should have a clean install.

That is part of past drivers, don't worry about the registry at all.

As to whether using Dell's or NVidia's site to up date drivers, I have seen opinion that is opposite to essenbe's. That is even when Dell has chosen with service tag details. According to Dell the appropriate driver is 191.33 plus from some date in 2010, whilst Nvidia has 314.07. It's all very confusing!

That is my fault I am by no means a hardware expert, I deal mainly with driver problems and beyond actually building a PC or replacing a part I am not much use in that department.

Dsprague, I am far from a driver expert. However, I was told by a member of the BSOD team that certain laptop manufacturers manipulate their drivers to work with only their machines, Dell was one of them. Supposedly, the drivers from Nvidia site don't work well with those machines. I'm just passing along what I was told. But, having owned a Dell machine before, I know they are very proprietary with their hardware and drivers and are not very good at keeping up to date drivers on their site. So, it seems that the confusion in dealing with proprietary manufacturers, is it more important to get a driver that works with that machine or get the most up to date one. He can try both and see if one works better than the other, I guess. Just one more reason I build my own now, Dell is the primary reason I started building myself.

No one on this forum is at fault. IMHO faults often lie with the computer and hard/s'ware manufacturers. who do not communicate well or by accident or otherwise do not tell all.

@essenbe.Mine is a desktop, but as to Dell to the average Uk Joe, who lacks knowledge and/ or dextrous skills, their offerings are attractive. Also it seems that so many names have gone that the pool for such as I is nearer a puddle.

A postscript ( though I do have an upcoming question in another thread) is that after much "it's cured and then it isn't", I resorted to a clean install, which while I was not attending failed, so confronting me with a black screen. None of the options allowed me to log on.

Repair man called, who found problem was faulty graphics card. Nvidia GeForce 310 was replaced by Raedon HD 4300/4500 Series card. Thanks and virtual(d) to you all
