BSOD upon restart of PC error: 0X0000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Hi, I am having a problem with my computer. I was restarting my laptop when it was on battery power- the 1st time it restarted was successful without any problems but on the 2nd restart, the 'Shutting down...' message was on the screen for more than 20 minutes. The CPU/HDD indicator was flashing but after more than 20 minutes I decided to force power off the laptop as I decided it was a hang. When I rebooted the pc I was greeted with a BSOD (refer to the thread title for error code). Taking a photo of the BSOD error, when I rebooted again I encountered a message: 'Windows could not start'. I chose Launch Startup Repair (recommended) out of 2 options- the 2nd was Start Windows Normally but upon fixing the computer Windows said: 'Could not find an automatic fix it for this computer' and prompted me to check online for solutions. After i managed to successfully boot into the desktop there is a small dialog box stating 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.'

I ran System File Checker (SFC /scannow) and had encountered no problems. Also checked the hard disk for errors but no errors were found. Finally ran a complete virus and malware scan on my pc but there were no threats detected. There, my machine was, only a BSOD on the 22/02/13 but no more of such or any BSOD errors from that day till now (will it happen again?). Today downloaded BlueScreenView utility and highlighted in red was the faulty? device driver ntoskrnl.exe (NT Kernel & System) listed as one of the drivers in the bluescreen.

I have also attached numerous screenshots from the Event Log- some of the snapshots may be exhaustive but pardon me, my machine 's warranty will be void in 1 month's time so I do need help from you. Before the warranty expires at Fujitsu in April i will have free service. I have also configured my machine to install a Bluetooth Peripheral Device, i.e. my smartphone when I connected with my computer thorugh Bluetooth but Windows detects no driver was installed with the device. This left an exclamation mark showing in the device manager and so I removed the device for troubleshooting purposes. My machine has a broken dust filter and i do not know if this is also a cause of the blue screen error...Pls help!

Uninstall Norton and all Symentec products using Norton Removal tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

You have 21 items stored in startup. Free up the startup.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept then restart.

    Post back with results.

Hey! Thank you for your reply. May I ask what the code is? Do I need to do anything with the code? I clicked on the link for the 'Description here:' but seems that the web browser (ie9) was unable to display the webpage properly.

The codes are parts of your crash dump analysis .... just for information ... which modules are failing, which modules are causing the BSODs.

If you cannot access them, see below:

    • SYMEVENT64x86.SYS = Norton Internet Security
    • BHDrvx64.sys = Symantec Heuristics Driver
    • EraserUtilRebootDrv.sys = Symantec /Norton

These things are causing the BSODs for you.

Thank you for your explanation. But is it highly recommended to remove Norton Internet Security and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead? Is there a rationale to explain why this particular antivirus software- NIE can cause BSoDs? I am bringing my laptop to my manufacturer's service centre soon. Should I perform these actions (e.g. install MSS, clear startup programs , run full scans etc...) now or after i hear what the technician says about after he serviced my laptop?

I cannot say the rational ... it's the matter to think by the developer of the program. I just can say that norton does it. We have experienced more than thousands of cases where it happened exactly the same; and after removing norton those worked fine.

If you search in threads, you will get the answer.

Reinstalling/changing norton's version will not be able to make you happy in long run.

I just can say that the developers also confessed it in some of their KB articles ... and one of their reps posted in one thread dealt by me. They told that they have a fix ... never experienced any user benefited by that fix.
