Various BSOD error on new machine

Hello,

First of all, thank you in advance to anyone that can help me with this. I'm pretty new to debugging PC's so bear with me if I seem dumb.

I built this PC earlier this month, since then I've had several BSOD errors. There does not seem to be any circumstance in common as to what triggers them, and they all seem to be caused by a few suspects.

If anyone can take a look and give me some good advice then that would be greatly appreciated.

James

It is avast! File System Minifilter Driver that caused the crash.

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Let us know the result.

Cool thanks, I'll have a look at that tonight.

Are all the BSOD's I've got recorded caused by Avast or just a couple of them?

Almost all, but the quantity doesnt matter. Avast is the crashing element, and keeping it present in the system no troubleshooting can go any far.

Hello,

I removed Avast last night and tried to install MSE, halfway through installation it crashed (not BSOD). Then I had to reboot the machine. On reboot it woudln't load explorer, and kept hitting me with error messages.

At that point I decided enough was enough. I formatted C: and reinstalled Windows using MSE instead of Avast. I've had no problems so far.
