BSOD appears randomly

Hello,

I've been having a BSOD problem for a while now. I bought my computer (Sony VAIO S13) in November of last year (2012). After using it for one week, it appeared for the first time. They usually occur once every week in a seemingly random fashion. When it happens, I am generally either browsing on the internet (Facebook, News Websites, music websites such as 8tracks, etc.) or writing school papers on Microsoft Word.

At first I didn't know what to do. I formated my computer hoping it would help. It didn't. Then Sony sent my laptop to the tech guys who formated it again and put in a new hard drive. The BSOD appeared once again a week later.

I'm kind of desperate for this to be done with. I'm tired of saving data on external hard drives just to try and fix my computer. Obviously, the tech guys at Sony didn't help. I really just want my laptop to work correctly so I can set-up permanent folders on my computer.

Hi -

Please remove Kaspersky from the system completely (tends to cause BSOD's on the system). Remove it using its removal tool from here: Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

We recommended Microsoft Security Essentials from a strict BSOD perspective. Is most compatible & provides most stability compared to other antivirus app/Internet Security Software.

Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Perform a System File Check to check the integrity of all protected Windows 7:
  1. Click on the start
  2. Type CMD on Search
  3. Left click and Run as Administrator
  4. Type

Full tutorial here:Check your hard drive(s) for errors by running chkdskNumber down items at start-up. Keep only your anti-virus, this also improves the time for logging into windows.

This software is a known cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. Microsoft have improved Windows 7 significantly and it is much better at organising and optimising itself than its predecessors. Check this, this and this thread for evidence.

If you feel the need to use a registry cleaning or optimisation software, most of us recommend the use of CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download but make sure you back up the registry before making letting ccleaner delete anything.

Next update this driver: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5000 Series Adapter Driver for Windows 7 - Driver Reference Table - NETwNs64.sys or roll back to a last stable version.

Wow. First, thanks for the prompt response, you guys are awesome.

I've done everything you asked step by step.

All I need to do now (I guess) is to wait two or three weeks to see if it occurs again. If it doesn't, then I will have to conclude that it worked!
