BSOD mostly while playing DOTA2, error code 116

    Hi!

Since last saturday my computer has not been working as intended and dispite not being a complete novice, I've not been able to solve it. So now I look to you for help.

I recieved a BSOD while playing DOTA2 last weekend, but didn't think much of it, tried restarting the computer again and I got as far as playing a couple of minutes again before having it go blue on me again.

I started wondering and thought that maybe it was something with the SSD, it seem to be acting weird showing me that there was only 820MB of space left, when it should have been closer to 10GB. I reset windows and just as I thought it showed 10GB left, but I still got the BSOD. So the next day I bought a new SSD (I needed more space anyways) and tried reinstalling windows on the new drive. Same BOSD code while playing DOTA2 and after restarting it I was getting BSOD just by entering windows.

Since neither of the disks worked and one was new, I ruled them out. I started looking into what kind off BOSD I actually got, 116, which pointed me in the direction of my graphics cards and the drivers. I tried running them with older drivers as well as the newest. Same BOSD code. I tried using only one card at a time (both in the first PCI-express port though) and still BOSD. So either both are broken or both are okey. Port might be broken, can you run a card in another port even if the first isn't filled?

Since I ruled the cards out (what are the odds of both of them breaking at the same time?) I started running memtest86
On all 4 in a set - 5 passes, no errors
One at a time - 5 passes, no errors (in the first slot though)

I've made sure that all cords are correctly attached and not glitching. I've also to the best of my ability removed dust.

I ran HW monitor and did not noticed any increases in temperature that should be concerning, though I've never checked it just before it gives me the BSOD (can you log the temperatures to a txt file or something to be able to check the temps just before the computer fails?)

I got it working again for a short while by just leaving it be and the reinstalling it again, but then the graphics drivers started failing but it didn't kick me out of windows, this while being alt-tabbed from Dota2 trying to install spotify. After that everything failed and I had to restart with the button, and then it never got into windows again. Now it freezes the screen in BIOS after a couple of seconds.

The attached dumps are from before the last reinstall as I've had no BSOD since then and I'm not likely to have one again since I can't enter windows.

EDIT: I just relized you wanted me to dump with your tool. I cannot access these files, but the dumps I posted are possible to view using Bluescreenviewer. If that's limiting I apologize, but hopefully some information can be found in these.

Please help me out, this is getting rather frustrating.

    Hey again.

I've tried to follow that guide.

    • Not hot, same with side panel off and a fan blowing.
    • Not the cards, tried with both my 560ti in SLI and alone with both. Tried with older Ati 5850 also. Same error.
    • I never get to use the computer long enough for me to run a stress test ( as in 3D mark). I get BSOD or a frozen screen just by installing drivers. Freezes in bios too sometimes.
    • Is it even worth buying a new PSU to test if it gets too little power?
    • sfc.exe /scannow on a previous instal with same BSOD said all was fine

Can it be my motherboard that has given up? That PCI-e slot in the motherboard?

Before blaming the PCIe slot or PSU, check with another known stable version od display driver.

Is the situation just the same? Let us know. And, can you run stress test for another time?

I can't get to windows any more. Now it just freezes during load, even during bios. Should I remake this thread in another forum, since it mostly just freezes rather than give me a BSOD?

First see you can do it or not.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

    Thanks for the help!

I solved it by replacing my motherboard with a new one
