    Occasional BSOD out of nowhere

    As the title says. I have been getting occasional BSOD out of nowhere for the last month I would say. It approximately happens 2-3 times a week. I don't see any repeating pattern.
    Actually the last one happened while I was typing in mozilla firefox to enter an adress. That's the only one I remember when it happened exactly.

    It appears that your win32k.sys system file got corrupted somehow.

    Code:
    BugCheck 3B, {c0000005, fffff96000144283, fffff8800727c060, 0}

    TRIAGER: Could not open triage file : C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Debuggers\x86\triage\modclass.ini, error 2
    Probably caused by : win32k.sys ( win32k!HmgLockEx+a3 )
    From what I see that can only be fixed by a system repair. Maybe someone more experienced could post more information about this.

    First Please begin by updating your system to service pack 1:

    Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

    Next please run memtest86+ for at least 8 passes:

    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Tip: Do this over night it can take quite some time.

    @bulletng
    Thanks for the post. To make sure - a system repair is when I repair Windows by reinstalling it again (using installation DVD of course) ?

    @Dsprague
    I ran memtest86+ for 10 passes and (thankfully) had no errors. Is it possible that only the absence of service pack 1 in my windows updating history was the cause of BSOD ?

    Service pack 1 contains a number of security and stability fixes. So yes sometimes simply updating to service pack 1 can fix a number of problems, let us know if you have more BSODs, if youd o please acompany your post here with your new files from the SF diagnostic tool.
