Random Reset Problem

Thanks in advance for any help! http://www.sevenforums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif My computer does a random reset. Sometimes during use, often during idle time. I leave the computer on 24/7 for SETI. I recently changed the video card due to some unrelated issues and have replaced the hard drive in the past.

Have you already scanned for a malware infection?

Yes, I have run many scans and have found no problems. My guess at this point is a driver problem but I am not sure. Sometimes it will reboot every couple of days, sometimes it goes weeks between rebooting. No pattern at all.

Check in the task manager, any suspicious process running? Reboots when idle seems weird, that's why am asking.

These things are failing there, and the computer is crashing. From your drivers list:

See the details.

And Teefer.sys .... it's from symentec too, but no driver guide is available.
Code:

Uninstall Norton and all Symentec products using Norton Removal tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

You have more than 30 programs in startup. Free them up all. Free up the startup.
  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Uninstall all MSI bloatware.

Let us know the results.

nilank - no suspicious programs running.

Arc - I have followed all of your recommendations and will see what happens! Because this is a fairly random event it may be some time before I can say it is "officially" solved.
Thanks for your help!

Do a clean startup and see if it still resets.

How to Perform a Clean Startup

Follow "Step One" described in the link and report back.

Thanks.

What made you enable Driver Verifier?
I am not seeing any reason behind it. Not at all!

Let us know if there is any issue with Driver Verified disabled only, after following the instructions of my earlier post.

Driver verifier is not to be used at will, and it is supposed to make the system laggy, slow, hand off and on, stick at startup and many other things. We use it only when it is needed.
