USB crashes in windows 7

I've heard that If u insert USB pen drive to front port of the desktop computer system on which windows 7 is installed, pen drive gets crashed?

I've installed windows 7 yesterday but didn't tried it...

the person who gave me this information has tried to use different USB drives on at least 10 computers found out that the problem still persists..

hope U guys will provide me an answer for this as till that time I wont be inserting my USB pen drive at front port.

Ashish

I haven't heard of this happening, but that certainly doesn't mean that it cant. We would need a lot more information about your friends computer before we could begin to diagnose the problem and suggest a fix...

Welcome to the forums..

I use USB thumb drives all the time on a number of win 7 pcs and notebooks without a single problem. I'd say the problem is more likely to be the drive and not the OS

While the OP is presenting the issue in a twisted Urban Legend form, there are thousands of reports of the underlying issue.

This part is stupid - the person who gave me this information has tried to use different USB drives on at least 10 computers found out that the problem still persists..

Ashish - use your thumb drive on any USB port that you choose.

Thank you all for showing interest in my post.

I agree that as I'm a newcomer to the forum I really dont know the rules and the language for the same..

thanks again for your answers but this time I'll try to simplify my querry a bit:

I've heard that If u insert USB drive to front port of the desktop computer system on which windows 7 is installed, the thumb drive crashes ! !

I've installed windows 7 but didn't tried to use the THUMB drive yet.

I'm working as tech support and got to know about this particular issue from my Tech. lead.
he had tried at least 10 thumb drives of different configurations and different companies on several desktop computers with windows 7, but still found out that the thumb drives are crashing.
and remember that this happens only with the desktop computers and not with laptops and notebook computers.
I hope that you'll be able to understand my urban legend language this time Sir...
and if you can explain why it was stupid for me to post the thread, please do that as I'll really understand how to write a thread..
hope U guys will provide me an answer for this as till that time I wont be inserting my USB pen drive at front port.

Mine doesn't.

Have you had a chance to ask the Lead for their theories regarding the causes of the symptom?

Can you be more precise? What does it mean for the thumb drive to "crash" in this context?

Presumably because it's difficult to establish what constitutes the "front" surface of a laptop

Welcome to SF Ashish

There may indeed be some truth to the rumour, especially given the statistically amazing rotten luck that your tech lead's had with this issue. However, I'd caution you against jumping to the conclusion that _all_ Windows 7 machines behave this way, or that it's something to do with the OS itself. The overwhelmingly vast majority of users - including me - don't experience these problems, so to truly understand it you'd have to identify the commonalities shared by the machines which do exhibit symptoms, or work your way backwards from a repro of the problem.

In short, you're highly unlikely to personally experience something this obscure, and it's safe to plug in that USB stick.

Because you are working in Tech Support, I must reespond to you in this manner:

Please describe the conditions that would make the described phenomenon plausible.

Perhaps, we will help you get the Lead Tech job.

I have had 10 different computers with all the various beta & rc builds of Windows 7.

Not 1 USB drive has crashed them.

It must be an individual issue with a few computers or USERS
