    BSOD while I am idling

    Hi

I had previous BSOD problem before with this computer that was related to my ethernet's driver, and the solution given last time seemed to fix it. However, I am getting another BSOD which I believe is completely unrelated to the previous BSODs. If there was some sort of pattern of why this BSOD happens, I would post it, but it seems completely random and happens generally when I am away from the computer (when I come back, my computer has restarted with the message "Windows has unexpected restarted".

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are overclocking any hardware, STOP. Reset any changed values back to default.

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD's. Please remove it using its removal tool from here:

Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

Microsoft Security Essentials is recommended from a strict BSOD perspective.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Free antivirus for windows
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free
Good and Free system security combination

       Warning
Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

Scan your system with the following:

Number down items at start-up. Keep only your anti-virus, this also improves the time for logging into windows.
    1. Startup Programs - Change
    2. Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file.

To do this, follow these steps:

    Check a drive for errors:
    1. Check a drive for errors
    2. Check your hard disk for errors in Windows 7
    3. Disk Check

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

       Note
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial in order to rule out the faulty stick.

       Information
Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

       Tip
Do this test overnight, before going to bed.

    Keep us posted.

Okay so I haven't finished all of the tests quite yet (you gave me many of them to do) but some things that came up was that I couldn't fully uninstall McAfee (I will attach the log to show this). Also, I have a paid subscription to McAfee, and it would be a waste to not use it if this is not causing the problem (in my opinion anyway). I have done the Microsoft Essentials scan and that came up with 0 virus (will post log), and I left the MB to scan overnight and by looking at the logs, it seems like it did not find anything as well. I don't actually know if it scanned my whole computer or not because someone closed my laptop when I was sleeping. Also, when I came to my computer this morning, it seems like there was another BSOD and I will post another zip folder relating to that. I will continue on with the other tests you recommended me to do.

Edit: I just did the Kaspersky scan as well (I didn't know it was going to take so little time) and that came up with 0 problems as well.

No new dumps which means there was no new BSOD. Have you already done memtest?
    Proceed if not.

Looking through the mcAfee removal log was interesting....
    Code:
Line 18216: WINERR MoveFileEx() failed. Error: 5
Line 18217: FAIL failed to remove C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS\ETW\mclogs.etl
Line 18218: FAIL Failed to remove C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS\ETW
Line 18219: FAIL Failed to remove C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS
Line 18220: FAIL Failed to remove %COMMONAPPDATA%\McAfee\
     Line 18221: FAIL Operation failed.
This would imply that there are permissions problems on these two files/folders - and then there's the odd folder structure anyhow, which could mean a bad registry reference, or a bad removal reference.
If it is permissions problems then they need to be checked on the host folders as well as the affected folders as it could be inherited permissions at fault.

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt and post the results.

    DIR %COMMONAPPDATA%\McAfee
    ICACLS %COMMONAPPDATA%\McAfee
    ICACLS %COMMONAPPDATA%
    ICACLS C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS\ETW\mclogs.etl
    ICACLS C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS\ETW

    ICACLS C:\ProgramData\McAfee\\MCLOGS
    ICACLS C:\ProgramData\McAfee\*.*
    ICACLS C:\ProgramData\McAfee
    ICACLS C:\ProgramData

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have not done the memtest yet because I was busy today. I will either do it overnight tonight or tomorrow night. I have done the ESET online scan that removed 6 files (all of them were related to an ask.com toolbar, which I don't even use). I also have been having problems with my wireless connection but I posted that problem in the MSI forum. Perhaps that file could be the cause for my problems with my wireless. Where/how do I update that file?

As for the McAfee, here it is:

Edit: I forgot to mention that I may have 2 separate problems relating to my wireless. My wireless card is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-n 2230 and it seems to get very limited amounts of download/upload speeds (about 11 mb/s and 25 mb/s respectively, sometimes it goes as low as 1 mb/s and 2 mb/s) while my roommate gets 30-50 for both upload and download consistently. It seems like there is a bandwidth limit or something similar with my wireless card. The 2nd problem would be regarding the WiFi link adapter because that is the connection I use for using Connectify (that hasn't been working the past week) to create a hotspot for my phone.

Okay so I generally don't like double-posting in forums, but I was actually here when my computer BSOD and it definitely seemed like it was due to Connectify. It blue screened right when I hit "Start Hotspot" (although this is the first time it actually BSOD when I pressed that button) and I managed to see the file Netwsw00.sys listed (or at least I believe it was that file). I'm looking into finding an update for that file right now.
