The files I wanted to back up have been backed up, and I'll get my computer sent in sometime this week. I have an extended warranty on it, so I suppose I'll see what they'll do with it.

It wasn't the ending I was hoping for, but thanks for the help!

Any advice?
What OS is booting from dongle? Even xcopy will hang!! It doens't skip the bad sectors

I booted Windows 7 from the dongle. And I copied just the files I wanted, so I'll just deal with reinstalling my programs if I get my laptop back.
