The motherboard will only ship with the current bios version of the time its being shipped to stores . Updating the bios is up to you to do . The new bios only fixes the issue it says in the description area . The USB 3.0 doesn't have a firmware but it does have a driver .

Okay so correct me if I am wrong, but it doesn't seem like I need the new version of the BIOS because it only fixes small things that are not causing me issues. I know how to check for drivers and those are all up to date. So is there any way I can check for updated firmware? Or is there anything else I need to do?

If your drivers are up to date . See if you get anymore BSODs .

I thought the BIOS was a form of firmware

Okay after hours of apps, games, and chrome closing and crashing, I finally got a BSOD. Weird how the blue screen doesn't pop up anymore.

Code:
BugCheck 3B, {c000001d, fffff80002ccb51b, fffff88007943030, 0}

Probably caused by : memory_corruption
Code:
Usual causes: System service, Device driver, graphics driver, memory
Code:
CHKIMG_EXTENSION: !chkimg -lo 50 -d !nt
    fffff80002ccb51c - nt!KeSetEvent+3ea
	[ 0f:2f ]
1 error : !nt (fffff80002ccb51c)
There still seems to be some Kernel code corruption, I will still advise to update the BIOS, as a result of the Event Log clues indicating firmware has caused some form of memory corruption which is continuous with every crash.

Okay well if that is my only option I will try it. What,s the best way to do it safely? I have seen some kind of flash utility in my BIOS I think but I can try to read up online on how to do it.

EDIT: Okay seems pretty straightforward I will do it tomorrow after work I think.

Wow I feel kind of silly for being worried about updating BIOS. It took about 5 minutes and is apparently pretty safe with Gigabytes dual BIOS feature on this board. Anyway I am now running the most current BIOS (FC). I loaded the optimized defaults in the BIOS after the update. I figured I would leave the XMP profile for the RAM disabled and let the RAM run at 1600mhz, just in case.

I will run the PC and pray for no more BSODs and let you know what happens.

Okay I have been running the PC for awhile now and no BSODs or app crashes at all! I enabled the XMP profile for the RAM and still no issues so that's great. Thanks for all the help guys, it is very much appreciated.

Do you know of any reason why the outdated BIOS was causing the crashes? I just would like to know for future builds and configurations as well as just general curiosity.

Also for some reason my windows product key does not work. I click activate and it says it is not a valid key. I checked and double checked the key and it was correct. How can I resolve this?
Thanks.

EDIT: Well shouldn't have said anything. I have been trying out some games finally today and had one crash plus saying windows window manager or something crashed. That game was still in beta so I figured it was the game having issues. Tried out a different game and it ran great for about 30 mins and then I got an error that it stopped working and closed out of it. Figured I would keep trying because if it is the same issue I should get a BSOD. The last time the screen just froze and there was nothing I could do but hit the reset switch. Skipped through the safe mode prompt to get into windows. I don't know what could still be causing issues.. maybe because I enabled the xmp profile in the BIOS. I didn't have any more issues before that (granted I didn't use the PC much). Could the RAM running at 1866mhz mess with anything?
