Hi, I tried to update my BIOS following the instructions here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Technical Documents SABERTOOTH 990FX

However, when I try to switch to my flash drive, usually drive L:, it always says invalid drive. I switched to d: and the bupdater command would not work, it kept giving me Bad Command: Abort Retry Ignore Fail. Problem reading from D:\.

Is there another way I can update the BIOS? Thanks.

Hi,

The drive was identifying as FAT32. However, I read some guides and manually reformatted using diskpart (it took over an hour to do so, the USB drive is 16GB (~14.5GB free). I followed the directions again and switching to d: switched to my USB drive even though in Win7 it had been assigned to drive letter I:, I guess it is different in DOS? Anyway, I successfully updated my BIOS to 1604. Working on updating my Corsair SSD Firmware. Then I'll work on finding any memory/disk problems and viruses/malware.

Thanks again.

Added:

Just finished updating my SSD firmware. The Corsair SSD Firmware Update Tool made it fairly easy. Time to run some scans and make sure nothing else is wrong. Cheers.

I ran SFC scannow and it said:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. The CBS.log file was too large and exceeded the forum's limits so I could not attach it.

I scheduled a disk check and I am running memtest right after I reboot in a minute. Thanks.

Is it running the chkdsk ?

Memtest

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Pay attention to Part 3: If You Have Errors:. It will tell you how to single out a bad stick .

I scheduled the chkdsk. Right now Memtest is running. Still on first pass. I will let it run for a few hours.

Hello, I ran Memtest during the day and it ran for 8 hours, completed 2 passes and reported no errors. I also installed Microsoft Security Essentials and uninstalled Sophos. Ran a scan with MSE and found no threats.

When I tried to run chkdsk it said my disk was in use and that I could schedule a chkdsk scan. I clicked schedule, and the prompt went away. When I restarted after Memtest, I didn't see any chkdsk scan. I will try again.
