Things common to winxp and win7 that can cause this:
    • rootkit virus in master boot record.
    • faulty disk
WDC Scorpio Blue WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0 is your harddrive? To test the drive: WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Blue / SE / SE16 (SATA II)
QUICK TEST - performs SMART drive quick self-test to gather and verify the Data Lifeguard information contained on the drive.=>if it fails... give me the error code.
EXTENDED TEST - performs a Full Media Scan to detect bad sectors. Test may take several hours to complete depending on the size of the drive.
VIEW TEST RESULT - displays the latest test results.

    Give me test results.

    I did the following...

    logged on in Safe mode..
Uninstalled softwares.. Graphics drivers, deleted files in % temp % and prefetch,
Disabled all startup items. Restarted netbook.

Ran Windows diagnostic. Selected Repair My Computer.

Ran Startup Repair and did Memory check..

Didnt get any results or error.. Still the same problem..
Took over an hour to load Win 7.. And when it did its still
Flat as a tack.. Slow... :*(

Restarted to check on xp.. Same thing..slow. Could get in, it restarted itself..

Sorry HDD is Toshiba MK3259GSXP 320 GB @ 5400 RPM

    Worrying now.. HD issue?

Sure.. I will do that.. Thanks.

I came across another such issue and tried doing a WMI repair.. It didnt work.

Strange thing is I got identical errors in xp and Win 7 that said something do
do with kernel and message came from Eset..

In xp I got a message that Windows recovered after serious error.

I will run the drive test and from xp reload Win 7.. Hope it helps..
Will let you know the status tomorrow..

    I really appreciate your help.

    I ran the hdd test.

Main screen shows Smart Status as Pass.

Ran Quick test, it said it was incomplete, status code = 02, failure checkpoint = 00.
With red x and quick test as Fail. :-(

Result: test error code 03 and 06 - read smart attribute command error on drive or test incomplete.

So disk is faulty and has to be replaced. Make backup as soon as possible! Harddisk is dying.
Maybe your harddisk still has waranty

Oh, dear.. But its in warranty..

Ok how long before it kicks the bucket.. Its been running
Slow and almost was on for a good 30 hours or more. I lost 2 days, no sleep..

I dont get it.. Its slow even in xp and 7 in safe mode..

Takes ages to load.. Once in every operation works but its freaking long to execute.

Never seen like this before.. I only had issue with a PC hdd before which had permanent bad sector.

I have to try a clean wipe of C & D drives and reinstall os.

Backup files? At this slow rate it will take a zillion years :-(

Glad its in warranty.. Will do a format and reload os.. Hope it works! :-(

Ok Just spoke with Acer, he says format and install Win 7.. If there is issue get bacj..

lol.. I knew that was coming..

Interestingly he quoted that hard drive too has 1 year warranty.. Fishy..
Desktop one is atleast 2 years.

I think to be safe from Acer point of view and raise alarm, i have to only install Win 7 on C and no dual boot..
Have to try this tonight. Will keep you posted.. Can you sent your email in PM please? Thanks Kaktussoft!

Boot from some bootable rescur dvd for example macrium reflect Imaging with free Macrium

If it backups very very slow.... it's a prove of a faulty internal disk (which is proved already). a win7 reinstall won't fix that! Backup as soon as possible... if possible!

Harddisk manufacturer gives more than 1 year waranty. If you replace disk and restore the (good) backup..... all is fine and working fast

I have to mention this after reading over a topic.

As I have XP the SATA mode is set to IDE (if not it won't load). IS that a problem?

I did this when installing XP through a flash drive. I now learn AHCI improves performance and is backward compatible...

Will Win 7 install using a Flash drive in AHCI mode?

I still don't rule out a rootkit or a messed up MBR..

I have downloaded the image you have hosted on Skydrive.

Thanks for reducing it to 175 mb.. I would not have tried if it was 1.7 GB..

Last resort is always Formating and installing Win 7 (Win XP is no longer in agenda for Netbook).

Quick Question.. How will I copy files using this recovery thingy? Can I load the iso on a flash drive (Netbooks got no DVD drive)..???
