    CPQhook.dll

Working on a Windows 7 Home HP machine that will not get to a desktop since this error message started coming up
    "Explorer.exe - System Error
The program cannot start because cpqhooks.dll is missing from your computer."

After some googling it appears that this is a HP file that can be easily hacked but I do not trust any of the references enough to download anything from them so I came to trusted SevenForums for some direction. Before I lost the desktop everything came up but I could not run any .exe or .com files, before that this machine had a FBI moneypak virus.

cpqhooks.dll seems to be more of a Windows file, if Windows Explorer is unable to start without it, have you tried using the SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Did this happen immediately after removing virus? How did you remove the virus?
Do you have Compaq/HP Restore Plus! on machine?

After running Superantispyware, Malware, and Norton scans on this hard drive on my computer as drive D: I re-installed it and booted to Safe Mode w/networking and installed the first two natively and ran them. After rebooting I got a desktop but every EXE and COM file I tried to run gave me a 'no such interface supported' error. I found out I could run EXE and COM files if I started in safe mode 'command prompt'

I have run the sfc scannow, superantispyware, and malwarebytes from the command prompt mode. after that I lost the task bar and all desktop icons in every mode. I can start task manager and have tried running exe and com from it getting the same no such interface error. I have tried to re-register dll's and last night Malwarebytes found a registry problem with some shell entries.

About ready to erase all and reinstall.

No repair install available with HP's rescue disk set. :-( Tried using a OEM disk and was given a rasberry. Got lucky today. A twin to the problem machine walked in today, I'm hoping this will help.

Follow the first few steps here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

This will help you create a new Windows 7 Installation DVD for your licensed version, which you will be able to boot from and select a Repair Install.
