IT appears that this install of windows is counterfeit, the product ID matches an Acer/Gateway/Packard while the motherboard seems to be an OEm ASrock board, please purchase a legal copy of windows format your drive and re-install using the new legal copy of windows.
Well, the Windows install is/was an OEM version. I bought a new SSD and tried to migrate my OS to it.
I managed to shrink the partition, but after copying the image I was not able to boot anymore from any of my drives. Then I used a boot disk from the web to repair the original HDD boot partition.
I still have an original image of my HDD. Will that help if I reload it on my HDD?
It will be fine if you purchase a legal copy of windows, this is NOT a legal copy, I do not know where you got the product key you used, but you need to purchase a new one because the one you are using now can not be used with your current computer, it can only be used on the computer it was originally installed on which is evidently not this computer.
I am not questioning your statement, but I am confused. The product id seems to be an OEM key. Also, I have used the Windows genuine validation many times, and every time was OK (and I have been told that is a genuine installation). How can this be?
An OEM_SLP key is under normal circumstances the product key used by pc vendors such as asus acer gateway etc. to pre-install windows on pre-built computers. When one is found on a custom built system that matches a hardware vendor other than the vendor of the mother board it is clearly been installed through illegal practices, and thus excludes said install of windows from all/any reputable support, or at least any person with a moral compass who doesn't like to break the law.
Understand. So I need to go back to the provider and discuss this.
Thanks for your fast and valuable support!
