    BSOD while altering several programs. error code 0x000000c4

    Hello and thanks for any help you guys can give.

    My custom PC has suddenly started to blue screen, it first happened about a month or so ago but as it was intermittent and i have been a bit busy iv only just got round to sorting it.

    It occurs when i try to make changes to programs, such as uninstall a program or install one. But it doesn't always occur.

    I have attached the zip file the guide asks me too.

    Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hello bioni18.

    First of all, you have Driver Verifier enabled.
    Code:
    DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID:  VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP
    Disable Driver Verifier.

    DV makes the computer unstable itself, makes it crash prone, on purpose. The purpose is to determine the failing driver, and the purpose is solved here.

    The driver is failing for you is avast! Self Protection Driver.
    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
    Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

    Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

    • Double click to open it.
    • Click this button only:
    • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

    Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept then restart.

    Let us know the results.

    Iv done all suggested and attempted to force a blue screen by altering programs that consistently caused one and no BSOD occurred. As it was intermittent it may occur later but for now all is good!

    Thank you.
