I can only change to 4:3 resolutions..

Test nvidia card using Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Look if nvidia is working fine in another machine.

I think the card is faulty. Still warranty?

It's second hand, don't know if the warranty is still on it. I'll run the stress test now.

Turns out, I can't run it, because it doesn't recognize my graphics card.Instead it recognizes "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter".

Install nvidia driver, boot to safe mode and run the test. Maybe it works(?)

safe mode loads minimum amount of services and loads "standard vga driver". But maybe the testtool works(?)

I don't know a graphics test tool from bootable CD

Do you have a onboard graphics card or a graphics card you can swap with?

I have a spare 7600 GS lying around which I replaced with the GTX 275.

If you can't get the stress test to run, then remove your current graphics card, and then place the other graphics card into the same PCI/PCIe slot, then boot into Windows normally and see if the computer crashes.
