Windows 7: BSOD at random, usually upon closing laptop

BSOD at random, usually upon closing laptop

Although I've seen the dreaded blue screen a few times, this usually occurs after I close the lid to my laptop (the normal setting is to go into sleep mode at this point). In these cases, I open the computer up to a warning that my system was not shut down properly and get a system message telling me about the bluescreen memory dump upon logging in.

The SF Diagnostic Tool file is attached below

hmm

Most of the bsod are caused by your Ralink Wifi Adapter ... not sure how you got that driver version ... it shows as version 5.0.9.0 ..... whereas the official HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx ( hope this is the model you are using .. got it as per you dump file ).... driver for Ralink is at 3.2.2.0 (dated 2011)...

I would suggest you roll back the drivers or install the HP supported one !

I do indeed have dv6-6135dx. I installed the new driver. I'll see if this fixes the problem.

Out of curiosity, how do you diagnose these problems? If it's not too complicated, I'd like to learn, so that I can fix problems like this on my own if problems come up later

Hi

We usually diagnose the dump file using Windows Debugger. Its not a tough nut to crack ....but if you do have some knowledge in programming in C or C++ and do read up lots of info on the windows internals.. You should be able to crack it

To get an idea.. Look here .. You would get an idea... though those are advanced ..

Sorry about that! I looked at the link you showed me; that's too complicated for me. I wanted to give it a week or so to make sure the problem was fixed. It's only partially fixed.

Although closing the laptop no longer causes a BSOD, it still randomly blue screens from time to time. I'm not sure what causes this. You said before that MOST of the BSOD's were caused by my RaLink driver. What were the rest caused by?

It looks like the driver has not been changed... it still shows the previous version... and you did say you had BSOD ... but the last dump file i can see is dated on 18th ???
