OK - have updated the ethernet controller (Marvell) manually, as thought that the automatic version would have done it - silly me! Now using the latest version, which is dated 20/01/2012.

I have manually removed the jumi.sys as this was for a remote access/keyboard on my iPhone which could control my PC. I thought I'd try with the Saitek Cyborg Keyboard loaded during startup, but everything else off... so far, so good.

Again, thanks for your ongoing help on this - much appreciated

    Further developments....

Pc locked up, then screen went black and then resumed, but there was an error message saying that there was a problem with the Display Kernel for the Nvidia card 320.18 had stopped.

Continued using the PC, and all seems fine at the moment and everything is working as it should - that I can tell

Yeah, that's it. When it happens next time, will see if I can screen snap it.

We need not see the screen-capture, as the situation is known.

Let us observe the situation with another version of display driver.

    • Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features
      • 3D Vision Control Driver
      • 3D Vision Driver
      • Graphics Driver
      • HD Audio Driver
      • PhysX
      • nvidia Update

(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
    • Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
    • Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

Is it the same thing happening with this version too?

So far, no further problems. YAY!

Only 'quirk' was that the PC seemed to drop the Aero Glass theme, for about 3 minutes, then came back on it's own. Weird or GFX issue?

Observe the situation, If it happens even more times, let us know.

It might be a driver issue.

Well, system stayed stable with no problems until I tried to play BF3.....

Had to update the Nvidia drivers as was getting the problem shown below. Since then, the PC has locked up (no BSOD though) and had to do a reboot.

So, am assuming that it points to a hardware problem with the GFX card or am I jumping too far, too soon? Problem was OK until I updated the drivers to get the D3D issue resolved - DirectDraw, IIRC?
