Registry cleanup

Hi guys,

Hopefully I am in the right thread... Last weekend I installed windows 7 x64 on my laptop and just in this past week my computer has crashed on me 4 times. They're very weird crashes too (nothing I've experienced when I was using xp).. My monitor just kinda shuts off on me (but you can still hear the processor trying to work). When I reboot in normal mode, I can't run windows normal, yet it works in safe mode :S. I've had to restore my system in safe mode numerous times cause of this. The pattern I've found is if i install windows updates, it'll eventually crash. These updates install automatically and theyre only the recommended ones.

Currently my computer is working, but I'm worried it's going to crash again. I've tried cleaning my registry using registry booster and out of the 279 errors, it cleaned up 276 of them. I defragged the registry as well but still apparently my system's registry health is "low" and the 3 registry errors are still there.

The computer is a little over 2 years old. It's a toshiba satelite pro with an Intel Centrino duo processor. If you need further information, let me know.

I checked the registry cleanup and the errors are user related that have to do with file extensions... :S

What registry cleaner are you using?

Registry cleaners for the most part cause more problems than they fix.

Many of them are not compatible with Windows 7 too.

If I'm reading their website right, their most recent version, 2010, is only Vista compatible.

I think that the registry cleaner may have damaged something on your computer.

Why are you afraid that the Windows updates will crash your system?

If it was crashing before, then yes, something else caused it.

What programs have you installed so far (even if you've subsequently removed it)?

Your system integrity has been compromised ... Format/reinstall .... image your drive/partition in case this happens again...
