    BSOD When Playing Dota 2

I know I have another open thread, but this BSOD is unrelated to the other one.

When I am playing Dota 2 (PC Game) I often get a BSOD a couple of minutes in. I tried turning overclocking off, and lowering the graphics settings, but it still happens. My video card used to overheat (up to 105C at some cases, but usually below 100C) but the fan was cleaned and now it stays at a reasonable temperature. I'm afraid it might have suffered permanent damage from the heat. Is that consistent with the error I'm getting? (0x00000116)

EDIT: I forgot to add that the BSOD used to happen very occasionally when playing DOTA 2. Then over time they became more common until they happen more often then not now. That's why I think it might be heat damage.

    Hello kotoran.

The BSODs you uploaded are showing stop 0x116, that indicates display/graphics related BSODs.

It may be caused by some elements like an incompetent graphics driver, failing GPU, overheating, dust allocation, and insufficient power supply, mainly.

In that case, I would suggest you to do the following.

For the graphics driver, check the version of the driver in device manager.

    • Right click on my computer > choose manage.
    • In the resulting window, click on "device management" in the left pane.
    • Expand the "display Drivers" by clicking the triangle in front of it. It will show you Raedon HD 4800.
    • Right click and choose property.
    • Click on the driver tab of the property window.
    • Take a screenshot and upload it here.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know about the wattage of the PSU.

    Let us know the results.

Here's the first screencap you wanted

Here's the Speccy screencap after several hours of use

Also, the power supply is 600W, and it is providing enough power. I have the latest driver update installed. I have tried the beta and the stable release and neither stop the BSOD.

I ran FurMark. The GPU got up to about 76C before artifacts appeared. They are the same artifacts that appear as when DOTA 2 crashed (boxes about 10x10px all over the screen.) My computer crashed before I could cancel FurMark. Then I got a BSOD (the STOP: 0x0116 just like I get when playing DOTA 2.)

So it is a failing GPU. You need to replace it.

Okay, that was my suspicion but I wanted to make sure before I had to replace it. Thanks.

    You are welcome mate :)

It feels very bad to say the bad news, but is is the duty as a BSOD analyst

Anyway, for any further issue, let us know :)
