SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION STOP 0x0000003B fltmgr.sys-Vista Ultimate x64
System is a Vista Ultimate x64. Problem started (again, I suppose) after putting the PC on line power on boot after an APC UPS 1500 XS started smoking after a thunder storm. Happens once on cold boot, next reboot works.
This is a recurring problem that happened the last time my battery backup got fried and I had to be on line power. It seems to happen when turning the computer off for an extended period of time (hours) and then turning it back on. Restarts do not seem to be affected.
Last time the problem went away once I was back on filtered power once I replaced my battery backup's battery that had exploded. I have an RMA on my APC unit coming in 3-5 business days, at least so they said. From what I can gather the cause of this problem is system services and outdated drivers, or potentially bad HDD sectors or some such and unable to read an index or something or other.
THE SF dump is attached. Of note, I do think something may be wrong with some hardware part of my PC. See, I have 12GB of RAM but only 8GB detects. I at one time had 6GB of RAM where only 4GB would detect - I moved from three 2GB sticks to three 4GB sticks, so the issue is not RAM. In fact, I also swapped in another motherboard and the RAM problem persisted. So I suspect the issue is the CPU, my i7 920 with d0 stepping. Unfortunately, that's a bit too expensive to replace at the moment and I'd wait until next year anyways since the next generation is coming out which will accept DDR4 RAM. Of note, I also replaced the GPU which was previously a GTX 280 (which just straight up started dying, not overheating or anything, just dying) to a GTX 560 Ti though I've had the setup for quite awhile now with my power filtered through a battery backup without any BSOD's during use or restarts so I'd assumed the BSOD problem had went away, but perhaps it didn't. And while this information may not be relevant I figured it probably best to mention it regardless, narrow down things and whatnot.
The HDD's are four WD 1TB Caviar Blacks and a 2TB Seagate external. The OS is on one of the 1TB WD's. I suppose they've probably all been RMA'd numerous times of which I used Acronis to clone the failing HDD's to the new ones and then used its destruction algorithms on the old ones before sending them to WD via their advanced RMA services. So I suppose it's entirely possible bad sector data could be around from multiple HDD's that have started failing with bad sectors even on a healthy HDD simply due to cloning one failing drive after another. At least, that's a guess. I only have 84.7 GB free of 931GB on my OS's HDD anyhow.
