when i play any video games or try a burn in on my video card (nvidia gtx 465)
any thoughts would be appreciated. brand new install of windows 7 ultimate 64 on a brand new WD raptor HD.

Guessing this one is one of your USB discs. In that case, I would suggest you to update nusb3xhc.sys, NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver . Also, uninstall intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.
- Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
- It will open the "computer management" window.
- Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
- Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
- Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
- Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
- Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
Do some Disc checks.
- Update your SSD's Firmware
- Reseat the sata and power.
- Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
- Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
- Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
- You can use Win32 DiscImager to create a bootable USB and run Seatools for DOS. Follow this post to know how to make a bootable Seatools USB.
Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs only.
Let us know when done. If the issue persists, we have to take a different approach.
thanks, i ran a check disk and fixed the disk errors. i think the real culprit is the NEC usb 3.0 controller. i have the latest version of the driver though. what's the next step? use older drivers in succession until one works? also, any reason why this just started? i've had this computer for two years and haven't had this issue until 6 months ago. the usb 3.0 driver hasn't changed. it just seems odd. thanks so much for the help :)

i installed a newer driver and it didn't work. i'm not sure how to know which exact USB 3.0 controller i have. the link that you posted has a ton of different versions on there. i'm not sure which one i have. any help would be appreciated
looked at the motherboard and found the version, got the driver and it's WORKING!!! i had updated the USB 3.0 driver before, but it wasn't good enough. this was driving me insane. can't begin to thank you enough. if you ever need some free photos, don't hesitate to call if you're ever in los angeles. :)
all good so far, i had updated my usb 3.0 driver, a while back suspecting it was the problem, but it wasn't a new enough driver. thanks so much for all your help :)
