    Multiple BSOD and reboot error

I keep getting random BSOD but often miss them, the only reason I know they occurred is that when I get to the computer it says insert boot drive and try again (or something like that sorry), pressing any button just repeats the message. I have to hit the power button to turn it off then on again. I've tried running all sorts of scans, but am at the end of my knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    AdNazzyP welcome to SF!

The file you uploaded doesn't contain the dump files, but I went looking anyway and found these in the event log:
    Code:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2
This usually mean a port on the motherboard is going bad.

You may swap ports with a free one, and see if that does it.
    Take Note!

    • By opening the side of the case you may VIOD your warranty!
      • Please consult your system manufacturer!

Here is the screen shot from Crystal Disk info. Also ran the disk check report only and it found no errors.

Sorry about the lack of dump files.

Can you upload the results by following the tutorial linked in the 3rd bullet point above?

Buckup your data to an external storage solution in-order to avoid any loss.
Do you have a spare HDD?

The Motherboard port could also potentially be defective but the hard-Drive
is more of a concern at the moment.

I've purchased a second external last week and have the most important stuff double backed up already.

I do not have a spare HDD at the moment. Is it better to assume bad HDD or bad motherboard?

Lets not assume anything I suggest we test :)

    Test your HDD:
Download SeaTools for Windows if you don't want to use a CD to test the HDD you can use YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator to create a bootable USB (instructions are found at the bottom of both pages).

    • There is an option in the BIOS normally under Boot Device Order which lets you choose to boot from
a USB thumb-drive, if you are having trouble finding it ask here or consult your manual.

Ran SeaTools and the short test came back failed, it said to run the long test so I did, it got 7% in and froze and a horrible sound was coming from the computer, so I CTRL, ALT DEL'd it and went back into the SeaTools again, ran the short test again, then restarted normally. It gave me a test code and another "read element" I wrote down. Looks like a new HDD is in order, however while looking at my receipt for the computer, I noticed that the extended warranty still has 3 months left on it!!! So it will be going into the shop tomorrow. Not the first issue with this computer, so actually will be crossing my fingers for a whole new machine. Thank you very much for the time you took to help me, I'll let you know how it goes.
