Hi guys,
So after resolving my WU problems (thanks again Noel) my laptop has some standby issues;
It rarely comes out of standby now, Fans roar but screen stays blank, only option is power off.
And when in standby sometimes I return to it and it has turned off.
Where to start?

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).
systeminfo:
Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Norton can be a problem. Please uninstall it and use Microsoft Security Essentials & the Free version of Malwarebytes, update and make full scans separately:

Reduce the start-up items, Antivirus software is basically whats required.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:
- Click on the
- Type CMD on Search
- Left click and Run as Administrator
- Type SFC /scannow - read here
Run Disk Check on your Hard Drive for file system errors and bad sectors on it - read here

Update the ATI Graphics Drivers to their latest.
- Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys (8.1.1.921, 5.76 MB (6,037,504 bytes), 02/12/2009 21:49)
Click on Find your Driver on the left hand side.
OR - Download from Vista version for your OS bit from File hippo:

Thanks, Wow ok that's a lot to do, regarding Norton this is a company wide choice, But i will happily remove if it is causing me a problem, I thought the general consensus was that it was ok 'these days'?
General consciousness is a must, not only these days but all the times, but one real time protection is needed there, and so MSE. :)
OK so have done all this, nothing other than low risk stuff on the scans.
Norton has gone, Graphic driver has been updated.
Had BSOD had to use last known good config.
system seems stable now but still wont recover from standby.
