BSOD Driver Power State Failure 0x0000009F

    Greetings,

Ever since I got my laptop (september 2011) I've been having problems with my sleep and hibernate functions. I have tried a lot of different things but nothing has worked so far. (I will list them later in this post.)

I will try to make an overview to make my problem as clear as possible:

    The problem:
My laptop crashes after a few minutes after waking up from Sleep or Hibernate state. It looks like it gets stuck in a not responding state and eventually the BSOD will appear.

Things I have tried and good to know:

    • When I bought my laptop, the first thing I did was a clean install of Windows 7 Professional x64 (ENG) to get rid of all the bloatware of Asus. The OS that came with the laptop before the current one was Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (DUTCH)
    • Installed the latest Nvidia driver
    • Disable and reable programs that automatically launch when my laptop boots (e.g. "ATKOSD2", "ATKMEDIA", "ETDWARE", "HControlUser" etc.)
    • Downloaded all the latest drivers from the Asus site
    • Flashed my BIOS to a newer version
    • Changed the Advanced settings of the Power Options of my power plan. (e.g. that my hard disk doesn't turn off, change the power savings options in PCI Express > Link State Power Management)
    • Removed the P4G (Power4Gear) program. (Asus program for power plans)

I'm getting a bit desperate here and it would be really nice if I could start using the sleep state (for school etc.)

Any chance you could help me ?

I added the SF ZIP file.

    Hi Ghoul155

    Remove the software below
    Code:
    ??\C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswMonFlt.sys
    Avast software

    Code:
    \??\C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATKGFNEX\ASMMAP64.sys
    Asus ATK

If you want to reinstall ATK look at the link below

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download ATK_package

Download Version V1.0.0023 by clicking on the Global button.

    Update the Software below

    Code:
    \??\C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\CVPNDRVA.sys
    Cisco VPN Software

Run Malwarebytes Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

When the installation is done uncheck Enable free trial of Malwarebytes (see image below )

Update the definitions and do a full scan

    Hey,

Thanks for your fast reply. I have removed all of these programs (didn't update Cisco but removed it aswell since I wans't using it anymore). I also did the full check with malwarebytes, it found 10 suspicious files so I removed them.

I will test if it works now and will let you know something.

Btw, can I reinstall Avast ? Or should I stick with Windows Defender and get Microsoft Security Essentials ?

Thanks for your help already :)

    Hey again,

My sleep and hibernate function worked great for a couple of days. But now the BSOD has appeared again :/

Instead of Avast, I am now using MSE. I don't think this is the problem though, because I installed it right after I deleted Avast and my sleep function worked correctly for a few days.

But I'm not sure. I have run the SF diagnostic tool again and added the results to this reply. Could you please take a look at it again ?

    Start up

Keep less stuff at the start-up. Only anti-virus, this helps avoid driver conflicts and improves time to log in to windows.

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
    Startup Programs - Change

    SFC scannow

The SFC /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
    1. Click on the Start
    2. Scroll to Accessories
    3. Select Command Prompt > Right click and Run as Administrator
    4. Type
      Code:
      SFC /scannow
This tutorial USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off may help you:

    To Disable Selective Suspend:
    1. open the control panel
    2. go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
    3. click change plan settings
    4. in the window that opens:
    5. click change plan settings
    6. click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.
    Daemon Tools/Alcohol %
    Code:
Start Menu\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite	Public:Start Menu\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite	Public
Uninstall DAEMON Tools and/or Alcohol % software. It uses a driver called sptd.sys which is known to cause BSODs in Windows 7. Uninstall the software using Add/Remove Programs. Reboot the system. Once the program is uninstalled, run sptd.sys uninstaller to remove the driver from your system.

As an alternative, many people recommend the use of Total Mounter or Magic ISO

    Hey,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my late response, had 2 very busy weeks with school deadlines.

I have done the things you said but the problem with my sleep and hibernate states still isn't fixed. Here is a list of the things I did:

    • Start up: disabled all services (except for windows ones) and start up things
    • SFC scannow ran without problems
    • Disabled selective suspend
    • Uninstalled daemon tools
    • CrystalDisk -> screenshot is below

So what should I do now ? :/ It is because of the outdated drivers or ? Can I just remove them from the drivers folder in the windows folder or does it has to be done in a special way ?
Or is it because one of the windows services ?

    Driver Verifier

Let's run driver verifier and see if it catches any misbehaving drivers:
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Also, is the laptop under warranty?

I've run the verifier for 30 hours, but no errors / BSOD seem to occur.

The last time I had problems though, I didn't get a BSOD. But when I tried to shutdown my laptop, he just stayed on the screen "Shutting down..." and after like 10 minutes, the screen just went black but my laptop still was on :/ After another 10 minutes, screen was still black but my laptop was getting terribly hot so I shut it down by holding the power button. Normally if I notice that my laptop is having problems with the sleep state and I try to shut it down, after 10 minutes a BSOD appears, but now it's just a black screen lol. Don't know if this is useful information tho.

And yeah I think it's still under warranty. Don't have the original OS installed though.

    Heat:
-Only use the laptop on a hard surface with nothing blocking any of the vents.
-Use a laptop cooling pad if possible
-Blow out all vents with canned air (DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner or an air compressor, they can damage the components).
-Ensure that the fan comes on and is blowing air out of the vent (may not happen at startup, but should happen after using it for a while).

    Temperature

For monitoring heat of the system, use Speccy or HWMonitor:
    Speccy System Information
    HWMonitor
